Bosch dishwasher firesIt seems that it's another day, another product recall this past week. This time it's Bosch's turn who are recalling Bosch, Neff and Siemens branded dishwashers produced between 1999 and early 2005.

Bosch say that, "According to internationally recognised risk assessment methodology, which takes into account the likelihood of various factors that would contribute to a potential fire, the risk is deemed low." However, anyone that has their kitchen or home going up in flames probably won't agree so if you have an affected model please have it checked as soon as possible as Bosch do go onto to say that, "There is a possibility that a fire could break out in the control panel. If unattended, the fire could potentially apread beyond the dishwasher. If you have one of the affected models, please call the helpline at 0800 561 0082 or arrange a callback with BSH customer service immediately to schedule a free repair."

So, low risk but don't use it or it could burst into flames as several appear to have done already.

The official notice from Bosch read as follows:

BSH Home Appliances Limited has announced an in-home repair programme of certain dishwashers manufactured between 1999 and early 2005. The affected dishwashers are in the batch number range from FD 7901 to FD 8504.

Dishwashers which are outside the above batch number range are not affected.

To find out if your dishwasher is included in this repair action

  • Please enter the model number and batch number which can be found either engraved on the top or on a sticker on the left hand side of the inner part of the door

You can find the model and FD number as shown below on the rating plate of the dishwasher and the information can be entered on the Bosch Repair Action website from this link.

Please note that we are not Bosch, we cannot book visits for this safety recall and we only have the information given on this safety recall. We cannot confirm that your model will be affected by this recall to Bosch dishwashers any more than you are able to sing the Bosch recall website.

Just did the check for my bosch dishwasher, I had responded to the mailing in 2011 ....
Please be advised this is the same Repair Action that was advertised in July 2011. If your dishwasher has had a repair in response to previous advertising or mailing, you do not need to act (a blue sticker with the letter R on the inside panel of the dishwasher door confirms you have already had the repair).

I noticed in the second video, the machine had the blue R but they failed to mention that this indicates the machine has been repaired.

I rang Bosch as my dishwasher is on the re-call list. I told her I was now living in France with it and she said it would not need repairing as it is a different electric rating in France. Does anyone know if this is right?

If you are still using the dishwasher it must be repaired. The recall was due to a fire risk and that won't change just because you have moved.

I understand that the issue is partly caused by the UK National Grid 'pulsing', so there may be something in the different answer in France.

This is worldwide problem, so I doubt that 'pulsing' on the UK power grid would make a difference. The contacts burn primarily at the on and off cycle of the relay when the heater current begins and ends. The problem here is that the relay is being used near its maximum current carrying capacity and the life span is greatly reduced.

My dishwasher is SGS09L12GB/14 with FD8501. I entered this data on the website and it says it is OK. However the FD 8501 falls within the FD range of 7901 to 8504 so why am I OK?

No idea, only Bosch would be able to explain it.

I have a dishwasher SGS09L12GB/14 with an FD no. 8501. The 8501 falls within the range of problem units but when I entered the data on the website it tells me it is not an affected one. Can you explain? Thanks.
