F+P Smartdrive 053 (machine wont fill for the RINSE cycle)

Postby Gord » Sun May 22, 2005 11:54 pm

Hi there,
My little machine wont fill for the rinse cycle. It fills fine initially and can be filled with water manually (from a bucket!) but the tub just spins slowly (not filling) when the wash cycle is complete and drained.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Gord.

Also, I have been into diagnostic mode and there is no light for the lid being open and also no light for the tub being out-of-balance. The water intakes and pump seem to work fine in this mode!!

thanks

GORD again.

I've emailed you the diagnostics

Post back to UKW with the fault code

If I'm not there then penguin 45 will assist when he's online

Do not email as I'm about to go on away and nobody will respond

Best if you could do this asap

The smartdrive is a phase 3 (MW053) compact 5kg+

Going into diagnostic mode does not produce 2 beeps!!
There is no fault code shown at Level 3!
Though:
Level 8 = 20
Level 9 = 37
Level 10 = 8
Level 14 = 42
Level 15 = 55

“Lid Open” LED goes on.
“Out of Balance” LED goes on
“Size Switch” goes on - 5.5kg
“Pump” goes on
“Hot water” LED goes on and opens hot water valve
“Cold water” LED goes on but valve doesn’t let water through properly.

even when i run a cycle on hot water, the machine wont fill at the rinse stage.

any assistance - greatly appreciated

Have you checked the cold water solenoid coil Gord? Should give a reading of 3-4k ohms.

Power off first.........

Regards,
Penguin45.
Which bit of "Unplug it" is causing the problem?

Penguin 45 is right that the cold water solenoid is faulty

Their 12 volt supplied coils however should read 15 ohms and are basically bullet proof at these voltages

You should first check that the water runs freely through the hose and that the filter in the valve opening where you attach the inlet hose is free of debris/dirt

The valve itself is however a major source of income for repairers as their diaphram is of poor quality and will therefore split and subsequently won't let the water through properly.

Also these machines only rinse on cold water so a hot fill selection will not bypass this component.

Likewise the hot and cold valve are different and so cannot adequately be swapped

Drain the machine to avoid reboot errors

Ensure the power and water are off and disconnected at the wall.

Take all precautions not to get water in the electronics else forced air drying for a lengthy period will be required.

I seem to be having a similar problem with my smartdrive 053. When filling the tub it 'sounds' wrong and a quick peek under the lid shows just a dribble of water making its way in...

If both of my inlet valves have packed it in, are they easy to replace? (without expensive repair labour bills of course)

Yes they are easy to replace but then I,ve done it a 1000 times.

1/. Order the parts

2/. Wait till you have the parts before attempting replacement

3/. Turn power off

4/. Disassemble in an orderley fashion

5/. Reassemble in reverse.

Post here if you have any problems although I am going to the coast for the weekend so will be unavailable till Monday

Anyone should be able to supply or ph F&P 1300 650 590 24hrs for mailout of parts

Probably $100 max for both

Note there is a difference between hot and cold

Should take five to ten minutes Max.

You should allow 1 hr
