Bosch Classixx Champion dishwasher SGS55E12GB/56 fault

Postby fergalcat » Mon Nov 22, 2010 10:54 pm

Hi, thanks in advance for taking the time to read :) I came home from work to find the dishwasher humming away with an accompanying burning smell. Normally takes around an hour to complete a cycle, so I suspect it's been doing this for a few hours. Dishes grubby and a little water left in the bottom but nothing major. Tried resetting A+C buttons, display went to O waited 10 mins but nothing happened. Switched off then on and now machine doesn't do anything just indicates minutes in display. I Searched a few other threads and have done the following (with the power disconnected). Removed the filters, torx screw/cover - no obstructions and drain pump impellor turns fine. Removed the drain hose water run freely from it and no obstructions in kitchen waste. Removed lid and left hand side panel, found crud in the chamber on the side (cleaned that out) and the pipe form drain pump. No water in base float/switch free to move. Removed RH panel checked resitance across heater was OK. Circulating Motor rotates freely. Removed front door, checked continuity up to power switch switch removed PCB checked for any dry joints, burned tracks etc., but and all looks fine. I now have a pile of dirty dishes to clean and a rather sorry looking dishwasher. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

First try and see if the machine will pump out.
Put a jug of of water into it and then power up and then reset it and see if it
activates the pump.

If you hear it humming and no water out then likley duff pump or blockage.

-have you also checked the flap valve at about 11 oclock in the sump?

Sometimes you can clear a blockage by disconnecting the waste to the sump
at the matrix side and blowing back down(after pulling out the flap valve with pliers)

Next step would then be to check the resistance of the pump to see if it has
failed electrically.

Many thanks for taking the time to reply.

I have filled with a jug as suggested and then reset display goes to 0 but nothing happens, no humming from the pump what so ever now. The impeller did turn freely with the usual resitance every so often. I'll meter out the pump later it could be that what was giving off the burning smell.

I will check the flap valve as suggested and post back my findings.

Again many thanks for your assistance.

Just a courtesy to say thanks CJAP Peterborough now I've 5 mins spare to post.

Found no blockages so took the pump off the machine after the resistance appeared pretty normal to me. Run on the bench ok so popped it back and it's been working fine now for a good few weeks. I'm not sure if they can stick but if it happens again I'll buy a new one!
