Buy a new dishwasher or get it fixed?

Postby iamatableclothman » Sun Nov 27, 2011 2:06 pm

Hello,

I'm new on here and have a Dishwasher problem that I want to share with you all lol. This morning the dishwasher stopped working. It was'nt filling and making it's usual noises. ** It's a Hygena Select APL8214. After a little investigation and testing I was able to pinpoint a problem. I was able to test the water inlet valve, the heater element and the water drain pump all of which were working. I then removed the front panel of the dishwasher to find a burnt out pin connecting to the programmer/timer. I've since pulled the connector's away from the programmer and totally removed the unit to inspect it further. Here are some pictures of what I found:

First picture shows the burnt out pin back far left on the white row connector:

Second picture shows the programmer pins, looks as if it is damaged too but can't be sure?

Third picture shows the burnt connector:

Fourth picture shows the pink cable pulled from the burnt connector, trying to establish if the cable is dead, looks pretty dead to me?

The programmer/timer is £86 as you can see on this link:
http://www.espares.co.uk/part/dishwashers/hygena/apl8224-1/p/1083/1037/0/1067268/1083599/timer-programmer-unit.html

I need some advice as to whether anybody thinks I should repair the dishwasher or not? I've not found the spare part cables yet so I am leaning towards buying a new dishwasher. Replacing the burnt out cable means taking out all the cables leading to the programmer from all the parts which means getting the dishwasher out of its hole, not an easy job in my kitchen. Plus it would mean less hassle of repair bill labour. Also from the looks of it I will need a new programmer as well?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

The wiring you'd have to repair yourself, you won't get it as a spare part.

We do sell the timer cheaper though, here:

But, given that parts are going obsolete of that model I wouldn't say it was perhaps wise to spend any considerable money on it and replacement might be a better option. Also, find out what those terminals are for as it may well be the case that another component has caused this to fail.
