Machine stops before final heat cycle with buttons 4 & 6 flashing (fast & dry + delicate)
After reading a few hotpoint posts (different model numbers) it seems as if my problem may be the same.
Advice given was heater or PCB fault.
If the heater works ie heats up water (as in this case) could this still be the problem or will it be the PCB.
Advice on how to proceed would be very welcome.

Both the heater and the PCB are very suspect on this Indesit machine.

If it is heating for the first part of the cycle then it would point to the PCB breaking down under load. A resistance, continuity and insulation test of the heating element would be the first step. If that checks out then the PCB would be the next step.

Access from underneath, with the plug removed of course.

Is your machine an SDW60P or an SDW60PC ?

All said and done, if the machine heats to a point and displays an error code in your case A10, make sure the machine is not foaming as this will cause the tube heating element to overheat due to less water passing through it. also check the wiring to the pressure switch / module.

Thanks for the info lads.
The model number on the sticky labels that came with the machine is SDW 60 PC which I think you are going to say its made in China.
I had taken the front off the machine to see what the PCB looks like and my immediate thought was what few components there are.(unless they are all surface mounted on the print side) I didnt take the pcb off for a close inspection at this stage.
Upshot is that the machine worked perfectly for 2 different cycles after the pcb and wiring had been disturbed.
Maybe a red herring but I will go through the tests that you suggested and keep you posted.
What would cause the machine to foam ? (crap powder/tablets)
Incidentally what does the (looks like a piece of black plastic) on a pair of flying leads do ?

Yes, the dreaded C word. It indicates Chinese production but it could equally be used for a four letter word describing these machines.

It could be that the heater relay on the board is failing, moving it may have allowed it to work for a short while. Its worth pinching up all of the connectors just in case.
The small doofer which is hard wired to the board is the NTC or temperature sensor, it should be clipped tight to the inner door panel.

Indesit machines are very prone to oversoaping which is often caused by using combination tablets of any kind. Separate detergent, rinse aid and if required salt is the way to go.

PCB is part number C00252810, yes its the expensive one, just under £50 ex vat list price.
