Water not circulating

Postby Puzzled of Norfolk » Mon Apr 11, 2005 9:30 pm

Hi. I wonder whether you can help me diagnose a fault with our dishwasher? It suddenly went wrong tonight.

The machine is an Indesit D63. It takes in water normally and empties it out normally when the program dial is turned to the relevant positions. It also seems to be heating up. However, no water is circulating during the wash cycle - the dial clicks through as usual but without any actual washing happening. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

It would suggest that your main circulation pump/motor is not running, can you hear a humming noise when it should be washing?

It could be an obstruction in the pump, a wiring or control fault or even a motor fault. The latter two possibilties are both on the expensive side.

Unless you have the required skills and test equipment, it sounds like a job for an experienced engineer.
Please be sure to remove the mains plug if you are gonig to investigate further.

Many thanks for your fast reply.

No, there's no hum - or at least not a motor-type hum. All you can hear is the sound of the timer. The machine still pumps the water out without any problems, but no water is circulated during the washing cycle.

I may have a quick look inside (don't worry - I'll be careful!), but we're pretty much resigned to the fact that we may have to get a new machine, bearing in mind the age of the dishwasher (4+ years) and the likely cost of repair. This forum seems to be none too keen on Indesits! Would Hoover or Hotpoint be a good choice?

If the wash pump is completely silent then that actually bodes well...could be a boken wire for example, in which case its worth calling an engineer for a diagnosis ;)

If your appliance is under 5 years old, your parts are under g/tee from Hotpoint, however their call out charge is around £89.00. Best bet would be a local specialist, look in repairs@to check if there is an engineer in your area.

NB. For Hoover read Candy, for Hotpoint read Indesit.

Thanks again.

Unfortunately the Repairs@ page didn't return any details of engineers for my area. Oh well. I'll do some more investigating...
