Hi everyone,
As an Admiral owner who was helped out immensely last time you just knew I would be back.
After a nice period of faultless operation my 2006 Admiral GC2224GEKW Fridge Freezer has stopped cooling and freezing and has started to make an unusual throbbing whirring sound. It appears to be coming from the lower section of the freezer. The noise is hard to describe. It sounds like a rhythmic throbbing which when the door is opened sounds clearer and is like a fan or motor turning slower than normal. It isn't a mechanical noise but the sound that fan blades make when turning. Clear as mud so far?
I turned the temp down in the freezer and it responded accordingly and cold air is being blown in but I think that it is residual cold air from the cooling tubes.

Does anyone have any advice and a rough estimate of possible repair costs? Any help will be gratefully appreciated.

Further to my post. The freezer is definitely too warm and so is the fridge. Also it is ominously quiet which is unnerving as it usually makes an assortment of whirrs, chugs etc.
While emptying it it seemed to come back to life and made the usual noises but has just fallen silent again.

Is it the control panel, compressor? I really like the Admiral but it does seem to be one thing after the other. I would rather repair than get shot of it.
The old Bosch in the utility room, where all our food now is, has worked faultlessly for nearly 20 years.

The throbbing whirring noise is coming from the fan located behind the rear freezer panel. It is turning but has a pulsing rhythm to it as if it is turning too slowly.
With the panel removed the cooling fins are completely clear of ice. Due to dropping a screw into the drain I removed the lower panel on the actual rear of the machine itself and it would appear that nothing else is operating. The compressor is warm to the touch.
I am reaching the limit of my knowledge and ability.

Update No. 4

I left the machine turned off for about 30 mins. On reading one of the other threads similar to mine I went to open the doors to see if the compressor would run and guess what? The FF starts working as if nothing had gone wrong. Amongst all familiar noises I can tell that the fan I could hear before is now running at full speed and making the correct 'fan' noise.
I am going to see how long this working state lasts.

Is this temperamental behaviour sounding like a board failure?

And I just opened the door, it was working and a second later not. Also back to that rhythmic pulse from the fan.

And then 2 mins later it's all working again! I need a drink!!!!! Badly.

The fault will be the main pcb.
You will need a new pcb fitted.

Bob, many thanks for that.
I was beginning to get my suspicions due to the intermittent nature of the fault. It's gone again, by the way.

A new PCB solved the problem. Different JAZZ number but it made no difference and worked with the Code 05 that was on the serial plate.
Interestingly we always thought that the machine was particularly noisy making all sorts of whirrs and rumbles. Since I changed the board it is nice and quiet but working perfectly.
