Samsung RS21DCNS not freezing/cooling properly

Postby thomo » Wed Apr 19, 2006 8:43 pm

hello, this is my first post here and suprise suprise im after some help please.

we have the above freezer which is about 2.5 years old, its been fine but weve noticed recently that the display was reading -19 and 3 when infact the choc ices were melting inside.

I turned it on and off and it came back with new reading which was 0 and 7, tried the many power freeze and cooling but this did not work,

I then read many posts on here and decided to go for a total shut down for 48 hours and upon swithing back on it appeared to get colder but after 12 hours it had only made 6 ice cubes but was reading -11 and 3 on the front panel, so i stuck a small glss of water in and left for 4 hours, not even ice on the top! I then turned off and on again and it returned to 2 and 8 on the front panel. and has now started to go colder inside again upon this i suppose reset,ie turn on and off, so I suppose it has the ability to freeze and coll but doesnt seem to be able to hold it.

I dont know what to do next, is this an easy fixable job, a bolt on bit?? or do i need to call someone out???

Ive tried the repair link but I live near bath and there's no-one listed in our area in your(UKW) database.

The wifes pulling her hair out

So my question is

whats wrong??

can it be fixed??

and do you know of anybody reputable to repair it if its a specialist joB???

many thanks

Colin

ps im not to technical but the fan spins at low level on the back of the machine and the machine is vibrating most of the time indicating its trying to get the temp down, it does sometimes then seem to get warm again.

HI,

I have a samsung RS21DCSV witha very similar problem. the fridge side seems fine but the freezer isn't at the temperature diplayed and never cools down to the temperature wanted. ice cubes will freeze and unfreeze and this seems to have no reflection on the temperature diplayed.

from the previuos post it seems that this could be

1) defrost heater
2) A thermal fuse
3) a sensor

all of which make sense to me. the thermal fuse and sensor should surely be an easy swap to see if they resolve the problem. if so what do they look like/where are they located and where do I get replacments?

as it is only the freezer with problems I assume each of the items that could be at fault are duplicated in both the fridge and freezer and that the components in question work fine in the fridge.

I have taken the pannels off at the back of the fridge and freezer compartments and there are wires at the back attached to the evapourators which I assume is where some of the gubbins is.

I am pretty hands on with engines through to electricals so would like to avoid the cost of calling out an engineer unless completely necessary, at least at first until I have tried the obvious things.

It seems from what I have read, the engineers seem to be a little unprepared to solve problems with these f/f and just swap things over to try and solve the problem with out knowing for sure that they are at fault. sorry if i have offended any samsung engineers out there who don't work like this. but if possible I would preffer to change the simple things first myself to see if they fix the problem.

thanks in advance for any help suggestions

hi guys

after 3 months of the fridge freezer working properly again, it seems to be doing the same faults as listed above.

could it be this hot weather and the pretty tight space its kept in ie theres units all around and over the top of it, so its essntially built in???

or would this make no difference, if i need a repair are there any samsung engineers anybody knows of in the bath bristol area please

thankyou
