Hi hope someone here can give me some pointers.

Right details are, Siemens fridge/freezer model KG-31V04-GB/05

The problem first appeared a couple of days ago when i noticed the temperature in the fridge wasn't as cold as normal, when i checked the temp gauge in the freezer door it was up near 0 degC The light still works, as does the green LED in the thermostat dial.

I adjusted the thermostat dial up a bit but nothing happened (there was no noise from the back at all)
So i turned the unit off at the wall waited about 30 seconds and turned it back on.

The compressor sparked into life and the temperature came back down (over night) it seemed ok for a day, then the temperature started to increase again.

I tried the turn off turn on again but to no avail.
So i did a little research on the web and found this place, i read a few posts and it sounds as if it could be the thermostat.

Now does this sound right?

Also is it likely to be the thermostat (and where is that hidden?)

Or the thermostat PCB board that the temp adjuster dial is on?

House hold electrics are not my area, give me a car engine to strip or bodywork to weld up no problems but electrics where you can't see a problem

Your problem is almost certain to be failure of one of the foamed in sensors for the temperature control. Until recently this fault resulted in scrapping of the appliance however Siemens have come up with a small change to the electronic control wiring that is quite quick to complete, not a diy repair so post your postcode or look in the directories (left of this panel) for engineer in you area who will be please to help you.

Thanks for that i'm in HG1 4TQ, thats harrogate.

Looking in the directories the closest is Hull which is 50 miles away and doesn't list fridge-freezers anyway.

Am i searching right or is there a closer option.

Nope, Hubys will cover Harrogate and I'm certain they do refrigeration repairs.

Give them a call and ask for Jason, tell him you got the number off UKW, he will help I'm sure.

Did you ever find the fault on your Seimens?
I have a Bosch KGV-3104-GB/04, which has the same symptoms you described.

Tim, it would only be resolved by carrying out the manufacturers recommended modification, quite a straightforward job by all accounts.

One of the UKW engineers should be able to help you out with this, if you let us know where are by postcode, someone should pick it up for you.

That would be Martin's patch but he doesn't do refrigeration repairs, perhaps he could recommend someone locally that does ?

If it's "quite straightforward" I am keen to have a go at it myself, given suitable instructions - I am reasonably competent in electrical work.

Hi all,

I got them to come out and have a look at it, they needed a part which has now arrived and they are returning on monday morning to fit said part, I wasn't here when the engineer came but the repair note says requires new Stat.

I will let you know exactly what the item is after its been fitted on monday.

For now i just have to remember to turn it off for 30 seconds and then switch it back on each day. seems to keep everything ok. But i did dispose of any meat from the freezer just in case

Hi

I got the repair kit from Bosch/Seimens this week. Very small kit, but it did come with full instructions. All it does is by-pass the failed sensor because it is difficult to replace. Apparently there are 2 sensors - now the control board just relies on one of them.

I have the same problem with my Bosch Fridge/freezer as you had and I am going to call the Bosch Service department to get the repair kit. Have you successfully installed it?

Well the engineer arrived bright and early.


When they first came out they decided it needed a new sensor/thermostat and would order the required part and then come back and fit it.

Even though i had told them on the phone about the modification/upgrade that siemans had recently released.
Now i don't know whever the lady who took my details just didn't pass this info onto the engineer but when he first came, this was mentioned to him but he hadn't heard of any mod and was sure it would need a new part!

In the end it was a quick mod taking about 3 minutes, most of which was undoing the front panel cover and re-fitting it.

But i'm happy my fridge freezer is all happy and working again and only cost me the original call out fee (about £50) rather than having to replace the whole unit

I'd just like to say THANK YOU to everyone here who helped me out.
I'll be keeping this forum in my favorite folder just in case i have problems in the future.

I'm trying to help out a buddy who has a KGV-3104, and I'm told that the 'Siemens kit' is no more than a crimp-bullet to bypass the failed thermistor.

Can someone who has used the kit pls advise on what the instructions contain, and maybe post a scan of the instr. sheet. Does anyone have a schematic, I guess that the two thermistor are wired in //, and that they fail short cct. If wired series, then bypassing the failed thermistor would give the wrong resistance ?

Anyone who has actually done this - all thoughts welcome.

I received the sensor repair kit from Bosch and made the repair yesterday. So far so good, the fridge freezer is working and responds when I alter the thermostat so it looks as if it is fixed. The repair kit consists of a small connector and I think really you are paying for the information as the repair could be done with insulating tape!
Briefly: when you open the control box at the top of the fridge there is a little connector box on the right-hand side with four wires coming out of it. Notice which way up the connector box is before unplugging it and then cut the top wire and the third from top wire (dark blue and dark brown) and join the two ends which are still connected to the connector together (so that they loop back to the connector). Tape up the free ends of the wires and then plug back in. That's it!!

If this is not clear enough I will try to find time to make a drawing. I dont have access to a scanner unfortunately.
