Advice on Hotpoint RLA21 - leaking

Postby superflexee » Sat Jun 16, 2007 1:22 pm

Hi,
I've had a Hotpoint RLA1 for a couple of years now. It has been leaking water for some time now. It seems to be worse when the fridge is full of food. We have tried adjusting temperature up and down, adjusting the position of the fridge, cleaning out the small drain at the back - but nothing works.
I'm unsure what to do - call out an engineer from Hotpoint (approx £90 - but free parts guaranteed) or a local engineer - no free parts guaranteed, or buy a new one for approx £150. What is your advice? Any thoughts on what could be causing the problem? It's starting to ruin my floor and any veg goes soggy from the water.
thanks in advance
Catherine :)

hi, is the water coming out from inside? if it is then the small drain is still blocked, piece of wire down it will shift any debris, you should be able to pour a small amount of water down it to check, if its leaking at the back then check the tray ontop of the compressor is still there & not split, worst of all if its wet under the base of the fridge then it could be the insulation failed

Thanks,
we have cleaned out the small drainage hole but it keeps filling up and then the water runs down the fridge and out the front. The hole is not blocked anymore, but i think the fridge is producing so much water it can't cope.

Then it is blocked with something still. How far are you pushing down the hole? There is a tube attached to the hole.

yep, simon is spot on, its still blocked, the fridge cannot produce too much water for the drain, its just a straight tube out the back, if you poke a long straw or cable tie down you will see it comeout the back above the compressor

Great, thanks guys, I'll give it another go and make sure it's cleaned out properly. (in other words, get the husband to do it!)
cheers,
Catherine
