Hi folks, wondering if I could get a piece of advice.

My Electrolux edb710x recently started playing up. (~3yr old)
About a few weeks ago, a dish cracked in it and thought, meh, cheap dish, and didnt give it a second thought.
Then a few weeks later something melted in it which, well, according to marks and sparks, shouldn't melt in an oven.

Typicaly, ignored it and was cursing M&S.

Day or so later, I turn it on, wing some chips in and, go back 20 mins later to find no heat.

Light on, fan on, zero heat.

But now Im not sure which it is.
So, question 1 :
Should I be looking at the element or thermostat ?

Im quite at home tinkering with computer parts and small fiddly electrical things but never -ever- taken to an oven, so thought Id call a random bloke from yellow pages : 105 pounds.
Er no. 20 pound element & some effort vs 105 pounds think not...

So, question 2 :
Is it really that hard to replace these things?
(read the guides on here and doesnt strike me as too hard, just the mild fear of electrocution running in the back of my mind )

*edit : should point out this is the main fan assisted part of the oven and not the top oven/grill which is working 100% fine.

You are describing an oven thermostat failure - run away temperature and no cycling. This can lead to element failure (no heat) or the safety thermostat on the back tripping (no heat).

You will need:
3110945-00/7 - oven thermostat

and either or both of:
3116448-00/6 - element
3115190-03/9 - cut-out

It's all basically a screwdriver job. Being able to use a test meter is important, otherwise you are guessing.

Poo, was hoping it would be just one or the other

Not really sure how to go about testing a thermostat to be honest ( though I have or can lay my hands on a multi meter), just not sure what to expect.
Any guides or advise again would be appreciated.

Safety stat should be normally closed - ie virtually zero resistance when split from the circuit. Element should read 20-30 ohms.

Just an update and a new question :

I had a look and tinkered with my oven and ordered an element as you mentioned.
Sure enough, 10 mins later old element out, new element in.
(Very easy, cant believe somebody was going to charge me 104 pounds for that!)

Anyway, when I looked at the element it was infact broken all the way through, so no wonder that wasnt working.

Turned oven on and all heats up.

Problem is, is it heating up too much?
How should I test the thermostat?

I got an oven temp gauge but not sure whats the norm.
As it stands, I turned oven on, set it to 100, but oven went up to 150. Dont know if it should do this in a fan assisted oven. I had only left it for about 5 -10 mins.

When I moved the dial on the oven just a fraction, it disenaged the element.
I was able to turn the element off and on ~100 mark on the dial, but it was clearly much hotter than this.

The fact it was disenagaging the element made me wonder if it was just in need of a calibration?
Or is it more fatal than this?

I went exploring on the oven to see how a thermostat works on it, and I got no idea how to get access to it all.
From the knob on the front panel it goes into a ~3cm radius hole and vanish's.
I'm guessing I need to pull the entire cooker out (which is up about 6"s off the ground so not looking forward to that)?

Is there a way I could test the thermostat before I start looking at how to swap this bit out?
( I got a multimeter btw).

Again, brief test last night for about 15 mins : set to 150, and went to 210 and disengaged the element in its cycle.

Opened the door, and it came back on again to heat back up.

So its kinda working, just out by about 60C *boggle*

Is there that much calibration to be had?

No. Replace thermostat as per first reply.

Update :

Replaced main oven thermostat at the weekend.
Bit of tinkering and removing many panels, but not a major problem, 45 mins and all done.
