Fridge freezer noisy

Postby NJ » Wed Dec 08, 2004 12:54 am

I've just bought a Bosch Exxcel fridge-freezer KGV31424. I hate background noise so avoided going for a frost-free one. But this wretched thing seems to be just as annoying with hum, highish pitched gurgling etc most of the time but with fifteen minute periods of deathly silence. The db is supposed to be 41. Not sure whether our kitchen is too warm (it's probably 20C - 24C - largely due to Aga) or whether that affects it or not. I thought Bosch were supposed to be one of the quietest makes!! Or am I being impatient. This has only been turned on for 12 hours - perhaps it will settle down. In case I end up returning this, does anyone have any recommendations for a quiet as possible fridge freezer -doesn't matter particularly whether frost free - that would be nice but not if it's going to be even more noisy.

It actually takes a surprising amount of time for a combi to get fully down to operating temperature. This can be exacerbated by the machine not being particularly full. Air has appalling insulation qualities! Also, the delivery process always results in the appliance being tipped, so gas, oil and coolant can all get mixed. Even allowing for a standing period, the initial circulating period can be a little noisy as it sorts itself out!

Get the freezer filled up, give it a a day or so and see where you are then.

Regards,
Penguin45.
Which bit of "Unplug it" is causing the problem?

Bosch Fridge Freezer Problem

Postby NJ » Fri Dec 10, 2004 12:02 pm

After 3 days trial we think it has a fault. Still bubbling away. Thermometer reading in fridge says 6 degrees whatever you set it to on the panel (currently supposed to be 2 degrees) and food not feeling that cold. Probably going to look at Miele or Liebherr. Any views on going for frost free types? Have heard that they can be noisy - presumably a fan noise? How often is this likely to come on. Kitchen would be warm (20 degrees or so). Any advice gratefully received!!

Penguin, I now find out that when delivering the FF it had to be turned on its side to get through our gate! As well as that, my husband switched it on for five to ten minutes after installing it, then realised his mistake (finally found the bit in the manual that said leave it for thirty minutes - surprising Bosch don't recommend leaving it for longer than that), switched it off, left it for one hour then turned it on again. Could this have messed things up - might things have got into parts they shouldn't - and would it eventually sort itself out? Ooh er... . It's now been going for five days and the pattern seems to be we have one hour or hour and a half making simmering noises followed by an hour totally silent, and the background hum of presumably the motor has got very slightly louder.

NJ,

I don't think you need be to concerned over the 'transit issue' your fridge has undergone. The fact that you turned it on somewhat prematurely before realising your mistake, then allowing a good time for it to 'settle' should be caution enough  Therefore I think your fridge should have settled down by now after 5 days or more. Its temperature control setting should have remained stable (especially if is an Electronic Control model) Running times can vary due to many differing factors, loading, amount of times door is opened, ambient room temperature and location the main ones.

I would suggest the only possible course of action for you now to take is to call in the manufacturers service department and get them to check it out for piece of mind. :)
