Suggestions for a double built under oven with hobs on top

Please, I need help!

In a new kitchen design (put together by my wife and the kitchen sales chap) electric hobs have been positioned built into the worktop directly above a double built under oven.

Specifically Zanussi ZOU575 oven

and Zanussi ZXE65 mixed induction and ceramic hobs

in a 38mm laminate worktop.

I have struggled to get the user manual for these Zanussi beasts...and failed. Similar electrolux/aeg type beasts seem to suggest that the double oven fits between two cabinets (i.e. not in a housing, just on two right angles screwed to the cabinets either side) and right up to just under the work top. However, the hobs require a 5mm gap between the bottom of the work top and the top of the front of the oven plus 20 mm between the top of the oven and the bottom of the hobs. Unless I am mistaken these two can not go together. Am I right?

While going for ceramic only hobs reduces the restrictions on hob placement a little it seems to me that these electrolux type built under double ovens leave no space for hobs above - although the kitchen chap is happy to sell them to us ;). A pity because the design seems cute to me with the dials down the side of the top oven to give an unusually tall top oven and a comparatively decent sized botton oven.

Sorry, i'm rambling...

Is there a combination of double built under oven and hobs that can be accomodated or must we choose between a single built under oven and hobs above or a double built under oven and hobs to the side?

Your assistance will be much apprecaited...

Seen quite a few ot this type of instalation over the years with no adverse problems.

If you were to pull out one of the double built under ovens in the kitchen showroom you will see that there is a 1 - 1.5cm drop from the front of the surround to the roof of the actual oven itself.

As per the other thread on induction hobs :wink: if the top rear of the carcass is removed this will also help the ventilation issue.

You could try Zanussi direct on 08705 727727 they may be able to supply the installation details.

You can do either of those options as long as the installation is in accordance...........

So many times engineers are called out to an irate customer who has complained that the appliance is faulty or not performing, only for the engineer to find that it`s down to a poor installation :rolls:

Don, once again, thanks for giving freely of your experience.

I guess all I can do is make sure (before I pay!) that the kitchen chap has contacted Zanussi and knows what the installation instructions are and is confident that there is the clearance required...

I did contact Zanussi Electrolux customer support and (eventually!) got the following reply:

"Thankyou for your email

Having checked with the technical department for you we can advise that it isn't recommended to fit an Induction or half induction hob over a double
oven the problem is the same with a half induction because of the depth of the appliance there wouldn't be enough ventilation room for the appliance.

Hope this is some assistance.

I suspect it could be done by lowering the oven but my better half tells me that she would not be happy with such an visible adjustment and so, with both the advice of the manufacturer and my wife ringing in my ears, I have given up on my idea of an induction hob and selected the equivalent electrolux oven (much the same but cheaper than the Zanussi I believe...) and an electrolux ceramic hob namely EOU63102 and EHS60020K...got to better than the Candy the Kitchen co. wanted to bundle eh?
