Spare parts for appliances from UK Whitegoods
by safisofi » Wed May 07, 2008 4:40 pm
Door is not closing keeps popping out, called out british gas electrical repair man as I have a policy with them. Changed the latch system still not closing finally gave up saying that over time the frame gets bent hence need to get a new dishwasher ! Can't see how the frame got bent as the thing has never beeen moved or tampered with. Would appreciate any thoughts or any contacts in Birmingham who can fix it as not a lot of repair people know about this integrated dishwasher.
thanks

Check that door opens no more than 90 degrees. If it's drooping floorwards, the hinges are bent and the door latch cannot hold the extra tension generated by the door not pulling up properly.
Use the repairs@ link on the left for a local engineer - if you get no results under De-De, try Brandt or Diplomat for the brand.

Which bit of "Unplug it" is causing the problem?

The door cords are probably broken-they conect the door springs to the door hinge and the plastic eyes break at each end. Have a look under the door left & right and if you can see any white string hanging down that is the problem.Mal.

Broken door strings will not stop the door from closing - they will allow the door to drop uncontrolledly and bend the hinges............

From what you've learned here I'd advise you to call British Gas and request a different engineer attend the fault. Tell them that you've been advised bent hinges would cause this problem.
If the door does drop below the horizontal, show the engineer and tell him that you've been told that this is caused by bent hinges.
If you've already had a contribution from British Gas toward a new dishwasher, call customer services and complain.
