hotpoint CTD00P RCD tripping

Postby Fatboy_Chris » Tue Nov 18, 2008 9:27 am

My Tumble dryer is tripping my Garage RCD. It doesn't do this when the controlled is near the programme end when it will be only blowing cold.

Now I took of the banjo shaped plate off the back and this area was damp, which apparently can be a problem. I tested the resitance of the heating coils but got very high resistance for all coils.

So it looks to me that the heating elements have had it, is that a fair assesment?

Now if I needed to change these I need to get the machine more apart, but I can't get the b****y lid off and hence can't get the sides off. Do I need to push it back, prise it up what? Or is there something that I need to take off before I get to that point?

Many thanks

Lid moves backwards. Use a flat-bladed screwdriver between the casing and the down lug of the lid and it will ease back.

Resistance through the heaters is good - I'd be looking at the thermostats in there.

Which bit of "Unplug it" is causing the problem?

Heating elements are more than likely OK, just damp. A good blast with a hairdryer is usually all that is required.

You do however need to stop them from getting damp.

First of all remove the condensor and make sure it is completely clean, not an easy task, a pressure hose in the back garden is the best way, just a normal hose will suffice.

Whilst you have the condensor out, lie down and reach right back into the condensor cavity and feel around for any lumps of fluff or gunge. there is a small drain channel that leads from this cavity into the pump/float housing at the back. A large plastic bag tie should be poked through this hole to clear any obstruction.

The condensor should be cleaned at very regular intervals.

Many thanks for these tips. I'll try the drying out thing first and clear out the condensor drain hole etc.

Handle the elements with care, very delicate.
