Ignis ADL348 3 flashes - Control board or NTC

Postby richiel » Wed Sep 03, 2008 6:37 pm

I have an Ignis ADL348 dishwasher and it has a fault that started off intermitently. It runs for a while and then starts to bleep continuously until cancelled. The light flashes 3 times pauses and then repeats in this way.
I eventually found a local engineer who dealt with Ignis dishwashers. He came and spent a while looking at the machine. He informed me 3 flashes is a heating system fault. He tested the heater when checked out fine. He then took out the control board to look for dodgy connections or dry joints. He touched up a couple of joints on the board and then re-ran the machine - same fault!
Using the 'UK Whitegoods' fault code guide he concluded it was either the control board or NTC at fault. He said he would speak to a whirlpool engineer to see which was more likely.
After a week or so I rang to see what was going and they claimed they had no record of coming here - I guess the engineer didn't want to touch it!
So I have a half dismantled dishwasher here that needs fixing - which is it more likely to be, NTC or control board?

Any help is appreciated so I can stop listening to the missus winging about washing up!

Tricky one to call. F3 specifically means no rise in temperature detected in the time allowed. If the temperature sensor (NTC) were out of circuit or tolerance, this brings up F1 immediately - the programme will not actually start. F3 will run, until it times out on heat. So, is the water actually getting hot? If there is heat, you can assume that the heater is working, but the sensor circuit isn't BUT, not the sensor itself - this would point to the pcb as the culprit. If there is no heat, you come back to the heater itself (25-30 ohms across the terminal block is an acceptable resistance reading), or the computer not switching the element on.

You need a multimeter and some patience.

Stay safe, all the above can be checked with the power off.

The water is not heating at all. The engineer that came to look at it tested the resistance across the heater and this checked out fine. Sounds to me, from what you have said that it is likely to be the control board and not the NTC.

Get the heater resistance checked first.

Well I eventually got the heater resistance checked and it came in at 27 ohms. So I thought I would go ahead and order a control board from here

http://www.4ourhouse.co.uk/cgi-bin/prod ... rt=control

Simple I thought! Wrong. The first one turned up with a broken program selection button and so too did the second one!! It didn't even click like it should.

I have just received another one from the same place - I had to wait a while for it as they needed to get it from the manufacturer.

I have fitted it but am unable to select a program. The rinse cycle light is lit but when I press the program selection button it does not change program. If I press both the program selection button and start button together, after about 2 seconds the rinse program light flickers off and then back on solid. If I keep both buttons pressed down the start button light flashes constantly. This can be reset by holding the start button for 2 seconds.

Do I need to do something with this new board or should it just work?

Is this one also broken or perhaps the wrong model?

The serial number on it is 461972714212 which is the same as the original. The only number that is different is the WK number. The original is WK:0624 and the new one is WK:0709

What is the actual part number on the box? You should have 4812 218 38401.

OK the bag the part came in has the number 4812 218 38347 on it.

Sounds like the wrong part to me - no wonder it doesn't work!

Any recommendations as to where I can get one as the place I got it from is clearly a waste of time?

You have bought a blank control board. These boards are for Whirlpool engineers who have a computer that can program it to work with different models.

There are 4 different models of your machine and they are two different control boards that will fit. To confirm what board is required post up the 12nc number from the r/h side of the inner door and I can get you the correct part number. 12nc number will start with 8545348*****

Picked up a new programmed board, as advised, and the dishwasher now works perfectly!

Thanks for the help everyone.
