Spare parts for appliances from UK Whitegoods

I seem to have the same problem as others regarding the freezer not maintaining a low temperature. I've read about the solution of shorting 2 wires but I can't remove the control panel in order to do this. I've removed the plastic pin at each end of the underside of the panel and this allows the panel to move slightly but what do I do next - is it just a case of a strong pull?
