Creda Model T601CW Tumble Dryer Not Heating

Postby brinormeg » Thu Oct 01, 2009 10:38 am

Hi there! Have searched the forums and now just making sure I'm doing the right thing

Ok so far unplugged appliance. Checked for obvious burning of wires, broken element, damaged thermostat etc. Nothing obvious to see.

There are 2 Thermostats: One with 2 light blue wires. One with 2 Orange wires with a blue/green dot on the back of it.

Removed both thermostats. Checked, and power is going through the one with the blue wires. The one with the orange wires and dot.....nothing.
Bypassed this one (with the dot and orange wires) for a second, and elements started to heat up.

Conclusion…Faulty thermostat! Am I Correct?

Question: Read when looking for parts that both thermostats had to be changed at once, even though one seems to be working. Is this correct?

Question: What causes this to happen to the thermostat? No major dust and grime build up, and the condenser etc has always been cleaned regularly. Just afraid there is something I am missing and the new thermostat will go wrong.

Thanks in advance for your help. Brian :D

Does sound like new stats a required. Always best to change them as a pair, one is the temp control, the other a safety cut out.

Can fail with age/use can also be damaged by stopping the dryer mid cycle to check on the clothes, you should turn to cool for a few minutes or just let it do its own thing.

Not a good idea to live test, no need to do it and highly dangerous, a simple test with multimeter or meggar would have revealed an open circuit stat. :lesson:

Thanks mate for comfirming what was wrong. Got thermostats here and working a treat now. Yip I acknowledge the ticking off too. Was just paid off and with 2 young kids and xmas on its way I dreaded how we were going to find money for a new dryer. So thanks again
