Bosch SRS46A02GB/08 will not fill - not inlet valve.

Postby paltibine » Mon Nov 30, 2009 4:19 pm

I have a Bosch SRS46A02GB/08 slimline dishwasher that is about 4 years old. The problem is that there is no water getting in and I've checked the supply, hoses and tested (and replaced) the inlet valve.

When I discovered the inlet valve was not the problem I sent the module off to be tested but this is also fine.

If I empty a kettle full of water into the machine and then press the reset buttons it will pump all the water out but I'm not sure if this "reset" drain function is level controlled or just timed?

I've looked at the "pressure chamber" on the left hand side of the machine and there is a red vertical rod attached to a microswitch and if I raise this rod to activate the switch then the drain pump runs and stops when I drop it again. As far as I can see though, when I add the water to the sump manually this rod does not seem to rise as I would expect it to.

I have a multimeter and can do resistance and voltage (carefully!) measurements but I'm not sure what to check next. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks in advance for your help.....

Re: Bosch SRS46A02GB/08 will not fill & it's not the inl

Hi

The red rod is part the anti flood device, there is a polystyrene float under it so if machine leaks into base the float rises to cut the water supply and bring the drain pump on so that the machine does not flood your kitchen.
Is any water getting into the matrix on the side of machine.

Thanks for the response...

So the red rod & switch are not used in the normal cycle and proving they work is no help at all then. javascript:emoticon(':?') That's another bit I can cross of the list of possible causes!

The inlet valve is never energised - that's why I suspected the module. The only way any water gets in is if I open the door & tip it in to try and figure out what's working and what isnt!

Todays update seems to be one step forward and one step back!

Thanks Washman, I took the manifold off and removed the "pressure chamber". This was sludged up with black gunk so I prised it apart and cleaned it with boiling water & a toothbrush.

Put it all back and grinned as the manifold filled up with water and then emptied slowly down into the sump as I assume it is supposed to.
':D'
Then I waited, and waited with the grin faiding and waited with a frown by now. After a few minutes I hit the reset and it drained.

Tried again and just the same - fills fine now but no washing.

When I first started on this, if I filled the sump with water from the kettle it would pump it round and wash properly but since I sent the module off for testing it hasn't done it since.

The pump motor gets very warm. I don't think thats good.':('

Any help appreciated...

If you are talking about the wash motor....bigger motor on the RHS....you should be able turn the 'fins' from the end although they will be some resistance. If you can't turn these fins i.e they are stuck solid - then you may have a seized motor or loose impellor blade.

Thanks for the response.

The fins at the back are stuck solid - I thought they were part of the fan case at first. When I looked carefully it looked like they were the bit that spins round but they are solid!

Is a whack with a large hammer likely to un-stick them?

Cheers,
