Neff Double Oven - No Power to main oven

Postby thelearner » Tue Aug 17, 2010 5:04 pm

Neff Double Oven U1451N0GB/05

Bottom oven was on, there was a flash and a bang and main RCD tripped. RCD reset OK, top oven working fine, clock and controls all appear OK, but no fan, heat or light to main oven.
When I removed the light bulb cover, it was full of broken glass and the light bulb had exploded.

Internet searches suggest this is not too uncommon with Neff Double Ovens. Some suggest the control module also gets taken out with the power surge when bulb or element blows.

Removed the oven today and had a look at the control section. There is no sign of any burning anywhere, and visibly the control module looks OK. It also looks to me like the TOC is OK, has a red dot in middle, but I don't really know how to test this, and if it should be Open Circuit with no power to oven. The TOC is mounted with another component, seems to be the thermostat.

It appears I can take a chance and get a replacement control module for around £60 - £70.
Would this be money well spent or would I be as well just biting the bullet and replacing the oven (it won't be another Neff after my reading).

I am quite comfortable fault finding with a multi meter, but really don't know where to start and there are no troubleshooting guides, and I have read the forum guidelines and understand why this type of advice can't be given.

I guess I'm just looking to see whether the failure symptoms match a replacement control module for repair. The top oven seems quite simple and appears to ne independent of the control and timer modules.

i know this may sound silly but have you reset the clock ? If its still flashing 00:00 , then the main oven won't operate till its been set .

I tried it again after your last post. It is working. I am delighted but cannot figure it out. I had reset the clock after the failure - we use this as the kitchen clock - the oven was not working. It now is.
All I really did was remove the control module and refit it.
