Bosch Siemens BHS Washing Machine Motors: Which is best...

Postby JM_2 » Mon May 16, 2011 11:16 am

Hi,

I was looking at Bosch and Siemens washing machines.

They seem to have new types of motors . Seem to be brushless.

IQ Driven Motor on Siemens. These have 10 year guarantee.

Also Bosch have ' Eco silence Drive ' ( Not sure if these have ten year guarantee )

Wondered if it is worth paying more for these motors.

Which other Makes of Washing machines have better motors than above.

Obviously, it may not be worth paying more for a guarantee on Motor if the other expensive parts fail.

What developments - innovations are there in Motors ?

Thanks

JM

Bosch & Siemens are the same company so whichever make you choose they will all have Siemens manufactured motors fitted to them. Reliability is good, their working life is far longer than brush motors. Their overall torque and speed control far superior and finally their noise level is far far quieter.:D

Bosch Siemens BHS Washing Machine Motors: Which is best

Postby JM_2 » Mon May 16, 2011 8:55 pm

Martin,

Thanks for the reply.

Some models still use brush motors.

So is it worth paying more for brushless motors.

I understand Siemens machines with brushless motors have ten year guarantee on the motors. And five years on the entire machine.

Whereas, I cannot see the ten year guarantee or even five year guarantee with the Bosch models with brushless motors.
They all seem to be two year guarantees on the entire machine.

Also the price of brushless motors and brush motors seem to be roughly the same as spare parts. Pity they just don't use brushless motors on all models.

Thanks

Twice now you've asked that question and I can't really give you a qualifiable answer. I would imagine the mere fact Siemens give a 10 year guarantee on it may stand in good stead toward their confidence in their motor. However I take a more pragmatic viewpoint towards this type of technology being as I have spent over 45 years of my working life fixing domestic appliances. I know from vast experience that if anything can go wrong it will go wrong. Only the time factor as to when this will occur and at what cost is harder to predict.

Chances are that if the motor holds out for 10 years the other vital components within may not be so resilient, including the very thing that controls the motor. LG have a motor that is also guaranteed 10 years but try getting LG to replace it free of charge is (so I'm led to believe anyway.) another story.

Siemens and Bosch are the same product don't forget. You pay more for a Siemens though, hence why they can afford an extended guarantee period.

HTH? :D

Martin,

Thanks for your reply and your kind help.

I also agree. Something else can go wrong in ten years.

Take care
