I've had my Bosch dishwasher for about 8 years and it ran three quarters of the way through the normal cycle (to steam/dry) and then the fuse blew with a bang. I tried it again the next day and it started normally by pumping water and then when it reached the quarter cycle stage (water heating I pressume) it blew again with a bang. I suspect it might be the heating element but would appreciate any tips? Many thanks

did the plug fuse blow or is it the fusebox rcd tripping?

It is the fusebox rcd that trips...

Take a look at my thread on this exact model that's 10 years old and that I've recently had problems with. All cleaned up and running like new!

IMO would say that it's your heating element in the "instantaneous water heater" that's playing up. Sounds grander than it actually is - I replaced just the element. The element gets 230v to it pretty much as soon as you switch on. What's happening with yours is as it heats up it expands a little and shorts out tripping everything. Next time it starts off "cool", heats up and goes again. Reckon you will find that soon it won't heat up at all. Anyway read my thread and any problems just ask. New element and a good clean is probably all it needs.

heater elements arent cheap and only available as a complete unit. in order to retain watertightness, you need to unscrew from the sump base to fit. dont be tempted to unclip them from the side of the holder...

ask KWATT for part 264512 but they arent cheap so worth checking that the element is at fault first. earth trip faults on a bosch could be chewed wires, for some reason mice seem to like the insides of bosch and neffs ALOT. could also be leaking onto electrics.

I got just the element. Fitted it and all working like new - no leaks either. It was a bit of fiddly holding all 4 plastic clips off that hold the element in but I'd do it again no problem. UK Whitegoods do the "whole unit" here:

Clicon, please make sure your information is accurate in the public forum. That might be the correct part for your machine but it is not the listed part for the OPs (original posters) dishwasher. You may very well find that the element is the same inside but there are other parts fitted to the whole unit that will not be. these may then cause danger and/or expensive and irrepairable damage to the electronics. As mentioned previously, they are supplied as a "whole unit" for a reason. by unclipping them and refitting the element not only do you run the risk of a leak, you may as well fit the new ntc and diverter motor *if fitted* as the diverter motors have been known to fail and take out the electronics.

Please also remember just because you have solved your problem sucessfully, it does not always mean it is the only solution. £70 for an element is a lot of money to spend if its not actually faulty, or if its damaged the electronics too. hence my advice to get it checked out first. its very likely it is the element but speaking as an engineer i wouldnt order one in just on hte hunch it had failed.

moreton it would help if you have a friend who is an electrician to do an insulation test on the element in return for a couple of beers, and as previously stated, if you feel confident enough, visually check the pcb for damage too, before ordering parts.
