Bosch fridge freezer ice in feezer - noisy

Postby Bosch user » Tue Sep 13, 2011 9:00 pm

I have a Bosch KGU34641 and after a short time, a thick layer of ice appears in the bottom of the freezer compartment.

Also, when either of the doors are closed, there is a noise which sounds like something being shaken off it's mountings.

please help !!

Hi,

If it's a frost free machine (I'm not familiar with the model) then the build up of ice could be affecting the fan in the freezer. The fan will hit off the ice and you get a noise, quite common.

It is usually a fault with a defrost heater or the control thermostat or sensor for the defrost or a defrost timer dependant on the model. There is no way to tell you exactly what the problem is being caused by without a lot more info.

Bottom line though, it needs some detective work to figure out what's wrong as well as a modicum of skill with a multimeter.

Whatever fault is the underlying cause a defrost will be required to gain access to possible faulty parts.
Switch off for 36 hours minimum with freeezer empty and door open, lots of water will find its way onto the floor, will certainly need a couple of towels!.Could also be caused by a blocked defrost channel, you would be able to run it again after the defrost but any fault will cause it to appear again in a few weeks.

Thanks for the replies, I'll give it a go at the weekend. Try a defrost first and take it from there

Fridge Freezer is outside now defrosting !!! Think I found the source of the 'rattling' noise, the fan housing inside the rear of the fridge has a fixing snapped of, so it has been super glued for the time being. Will bring it back indoors tomorrow evening and see how it is.

Whilst its outside , check the drain hose that's located by the compressor at the rear . It's connected to the plastic tray that sits on the compressor. It may be blocked with a jelly-like substance and this will prob be causing the ice problems in the freezer bottom . It's basically a bacteria / mould build up that blocks the drain hose which in turn stops the defrosted ice water from draining away and the only place it can then go is back into the freezer compartment.
