Ok so i return to the dishwasher to find the "check water" light lit. Open up and contents are washed to a point, however full with water in the bottom.

So - manually emptied bottom of unit and power reset, to get it to start from scratch. Also removed water hose from rear, checked for obstructions in the filter (which was fine) and also confirmed water getting to the unit at the usual pressure and with no obstructions.

Removed side panel and seeing no real much or gunk at all in the matrix, so decided to leave well alone (i'm an electronic engineer and have learnt that if it ain't broke, don't fix it....)

Decided to go for a short rinse cycle to see what was happening with the Matrix. So I re-connected my empty machine and off it went. Filled great. Washed great. Didn't empty - a few relay sounding clicks from the front panel, however it was all finished and the water sat in there. No "check water" light at this time. So, knowing that when you select a cycle the first thing it should do is empty, i did exactly this.
No empty though - it waited, waited, tried to fill... and "check Water" and the machine stopped.

Anyone any clues as to where to continue now? Could this possible be the "impeller jug", or the pump packed up - if someone could tell me exactly where the pump is located i'm sure i could stick a meter across the windings to see if there's anything amiss there!

sounds like the pump to me...have you checked the impellor is clear(filters out,torx lhs,pull up cover(in manual)

Pump is located bottom left as you look at the machine.
You can just about see it on the matrix side behind the red anti flood rod.May even be able to get a meter on it.
Other way is to remove front kick plate (torx either side) and then lift and pull away the front metal shield(again torx either side)Pump bayonets on to the side of the sump(lock tab) -usually there is a flip cover on top of the pump to protect the wiring.

I visited a dishwasher of similar nature. Machine stopped mid cycle and not draining. Removed the water from sump, quite a few plum stones, pop corn kernels but nothing to show the reason for to draining. I decided to open up the inside by removing the side panels, there are water on the base which indicates leak somewhere. Owing to the nature of design, it's tricky to locate the leak, no means of getting access from front or back only sides. Pathetic if you ask me. I checked the obvious points such as wash motor, heater unit but they are bone dry. Which leaves the drain pump which I could not see. The worse thing is that it leaks onto the kitchen floor rather contained in the base. Very frustrating, I thought maybe inlet valve but it's completely dry.

I could hazard a guess, a hairline crack on the plastic base from the sump? I can't see that happening either.

I could be kicking myself over this!

Perhaps the 'Trade' forums would be the best place for the last post.
