AEG Lavamat L86810 wont start

Postby mikekm » Thu Mar 01, 2012 2:04 pm

My AEG Lavamat washing machine (Mod L86810, Prod No 914525314 00, Type P6959536, Ser No 71100113) had a flashing display (with no specific number of flashes and which after a while very dimly displayed every segment of the LCD display).

The control PCB had a couple of burnt areas which I think happened after some mains brownouts we had shortly before it failed.

UK Whitegoods sourced and sent me a replacement control board. However, although it now comes up with the expected display and allows me to modify all the usual options (short wash, temp etc), when I press the flashing start/pause button, other than a clunk, nothing happens.

When I had first plugged it in I got an error code of E31 but this cleared when I re-plugged all the connectors. Playing about I found that if I simultaneously press the Time & Start button for several seconds, I get a status which says MB Alarm EC3, UI Alarm E00. From your error code list on this site - EC3 appears to be a weight sensor problem, but I don’t think this model has that feature (the control board connector for this is not used – i.e. no cable to plug into it), and E00 means no error.

Note that if I open the door and try to run a program, I get a constant repeating clunk until I shut the door (does mean the door shut sensor is OK?)

No programs work, like drain or spin (does that rule out water valves and pressure sensors?)

I am not sure what else to try. I have spent £194 on control board already and don’t want that to go to waste, but can I still get it going without too much more expense?

Appreciate any advice

Try a door interlock , next time try an Engineer to check first before spending near £200 squids.

You will get no response from the machine until you hear that 'Clunk' which is the magnetic door interlock operating and locking the door.

Do not keep trying it else you want to attempt to do some more damage.. Just replace the interlock as Seamey has advised...

Yes, the door interlock is burnt, part of the bimetalic strip has vapourised. Maybe that is related to the original burnt control board. Just placed an order for a new lock. Thanks very much for the advice. Hope there is nothing else damaged too. Mike.

If you ever have a problem with a door not locking.. never keep trying to get it to lock.. you can cause more damage by doing so.
