Changing Servis M 3102 A (Caress 1200 'A') Programmer

Postby DavidBee » Mon Mar 12, 2012 6:11 pm

I have a SERVIS M3102A (CARESS 1200 'A'). How do I access the programmer / control module to change it for the new spare I have.
The only way in appears to be via the rotary programme selector switch on the front panel.
The programmer / control module appears to be screwed to the housing (part of the front plastic panel) which contains the plastic drum used to control the water inlet actuator. This rotates in sympathy with the programmer as the cycle progresses on a common shaft.
There appear to be four grub screws securing the programmer / control module to the water inlet actuator drum housing.
I can see no way to dismount the front panel rotary selector switch to access the screws, hence to change the programmer / control module.
Is this the way in? Please advise.

my first question would be why do you want to ? 99% of problems on this series were related to failure of the main pcb located either under the lid screwed onto the rh side panel or at the bottom rhs again secured near the side panel, I'd look at this first. If you really want to take it out I think thats the one with 8 mm bolts go from the back or the worktop to the control panel, remove these from the rear of the worktop then remove the two torx screws securing the worktop to the rear panel. The worktop will lift off showing you the timer

pull off the dial with pliers then turn the soap cam ( the plastic wheel behind the dial ) until the holes in the soap cam line up with the screws you want to remove, use a magnetic screwdriver as it can be a bit tricky.

Dear jimca007,
Many thanks for your prompt and very helpful reply.
Yes! Why would I change what (now I have engaged my fault finding brain cells)is just a ganged rotary switch with a garden allotment full of spade connectors inside a dog kennel of packaging?
Answer: 'Cos I'm in a learning curve about these quirky little over-complicated nasty little PCB / micro processor controlled over-priced tinware boxes.
Having suffered from too little inertia, jumped to the wrong conclusion and bought a 'control module' without asking wise heads such as yourself, that is the reason, except to say I have twizzled the programme switch on the front pretty enthusiastically at times.
It was after this the little white box got the hump and wouldn't do anything. But eventually got over its sulk and worked again -- as has just happened -- again.
Humour apart, the problem would seem to be intermittent connection (? ) at the PCB end, so next step is to investigate this area.
Once again, many thanks for your succinct knowledgeable help

no worries if you get the pcb out they're really prone to dry solder joints on either the wee black relays or , if its got one, the big copper looking coil.

Dear Jimca007
Just thought you might like to know having had the PCB out, as I rather suspected after your advice and getting brain working, the 'fingers' in the plugs have an almost knife edge contact with the PCB contact 'pads'. Also the plug construction is poor. The fingers barely contact the pads in some cases i.e. almost off the edge. A few shuffles of plug off, plug on for all three plugs and its behaving as it should. Thanks again. David Bee
