Hello,

I have an AWD12s (s/n204173226) which has now stopped functioning properly. Basically when you start a cycle it gets its merry way, however, when it comes to draining the drum it all goes kaput and stops dead.

I've access the filter at the front bottom right and after a bit of jostle removed the plug. There was a five pence piece located next to the plastic impeller, which I duly removed. To be extra sure I removed the pump unit and did my best to clean some of the sludgy crud away. It looks to be in ok condition and the impeller rotates.

Anyhow, after reassemble and re-try the same thing happens.

Could this pump be at fault?

Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

First of all Bongo can I thank you for making my day with your expression "prakatan".... I fell about when I read that.....though it shows we both are of a certain age to find that so comical.

Where was I?....oh yes.....it could well be that whilst your Ariston may well go on and on and on, it's pump may not. But before we condemn it totally, can I ask that you stick it on a spin only cycle ( with the pump cover off) and see if during that time the pump actually spins?

I'm glad to have made you chuckle. After my chuntering and ranting this afternoon I finally thought time for a little humour!

Ok, I've tried the spin cycle as directed (with pump cover off). The pump does indeed spring to life and spins for several seconds then halts. Interestingly the spin cycle has not advanced any further and the power LED is merrily glowing.

Best stick a new pump in it then Bongo as chances are it no longer has the uumph to pump water as its old joints are cranky ( tell me about it).... But first before you leap into action on that just check the drain hose system and it's outlet lest they have become blocked whilst your back was turned.

By the way, our mutual friend Clive James isn't in the best of health right now sadly, though his pump is still in good shape....fingers crossed!

The drain hose certainly runs freely as I the kitchen floor discovered earlier on. I believe the waste pipe is okay nothing appears to be backed up.

Yes I had heard about Clive's bad innings, I hope he makes a full recovery.

I've replaced the pump but unfortunately I'm still encountering the same issue: The wash cycle starts normally, the grinds to a halt as the drum is not emptying.

Any other Ideas what could be wrong?

OK, at this point it may be more prudent to describe the sequence of events more clearly? For example, does it fill OK, then tumble back & forth, does the water heat as it tumbles and such like?

It seems to function quite normally for the first 5-10 minutes of the cycle. ie
1. Fills,
2. Tumbles and get frothy,
3. heats up,
4. abruptly halts.

as an experiment I had the machine running on a spin only cycle with the pump stopper off. The pump was happily whizzing around.

I then tried a tumble dry cycle, again with the pump visible. it worked, the water has hot. I closed off the pump access, water was being pumped out (i had the discharge hose issuing directly in to the sink ) then roughly 5 mins later the machine abrupt halted.

I've also had the PCB out, it looks ok, no dry joints, no burn marks etc.

I was wondering if there is a blockage on a smaller hose causing a back up and triggering a sensor?

Motor brushes worn perhaps?.....clutching at straws on that but there's little I can think of otherwise. My problem being that both Ariston AWD12's and Margarita Pracatan never ever sing in tune.

I've had the top off to day and noticed some soot on a could of electrical connectors. There is a metal squarish tube with two sensors and a motor. one of these sensors has soot on a connector.

Any idea what these sensors are?
