Hoover TV30 Tumble Drier Thermal cutout

Postby MrFixit » Sat May 07, 2005 3:58 pm

Whilst I'm replacing the complete heater assembly for a Hoover TV30 Tumble Drier due to failure of the thermal cutout [it's open circuit] I'd like to purchase a new thermal cutout alone as the rest of the heater unit is serviceable.

Unfortunately there appears to be no maker's name only the following markings: 1 inside a large C; a back to front R followed by U; SA inside a large C; VDE inside a triangle [this I know to be a German Safety organisation]; 155431 006 1; Tf 206C, 5 0 DE.

Does anyone know the part number and where I could get such a part.

Thanks in advance

Looks like it's integral with the heater, so not an "official" spare. Radio Spares perhaps or a similar firm?

Regards,
Penguin45.
Which bit of "Unplug it" is causing the problem?

Thanks. yes you're right it is not a genuine spareable item (although with care it is removable) hence why I've had to buy a complete heater unit. Will have a browse on the web at Maplin/ RS/ CPC to see if I can find anything.

Regards.

No it's a mechanical item which appears to work as follows: there is a small end cap (almost like the end cap on a cartridge fuse but much smaller) filled with a low melting point metal which presses against a bottom plate. A short plastic rod is inserted into the endcap and presses two contacts together at the top of the unit. When the unit overheats the low melting point metal melts and spills out of the end cap thereby relieving the pressure on the metal contacts and so breaking the circuit - irreversibly unfortunately. [ BTW - If I could work out how to include a picture I would]

Ah, that's the later heater type, the early one's had the above device (picture) embedded in the element.

I know the type you mean though, many applications use them. If we knew the temperature at which they "cut out" it would be useful, it appears from the info you have posted though that it's not apparent.

I'll do some digging next week ;)

I think he has one of these :)

As you can see by the little silver balls, the fuse has gone.

Has anyone got a source for this part as I need one too :(

This one if from a Candy CIV100

Thanks, Lee

OK, I will email someone I know at Hoover/Candy about this.

It's seems a little ludicrous that the supposed improved heater with that type of stat on it is still only available as a complete heater.

The reply:

Unfortunately not it's a complete assembly only

:(

Basically a 206C one shot device then, anyone source one anywhere (tried RS and CPC already) ?

My brother has tried a couple of places today while I've been at work and they say it's complete heater assemly only :(

I can't believe that something that comes off so easily is not sold seperately :( !!

Thanks anyway Dave, If you do find one somewhere, just reply to this post please.
