It's a switch to allow the thermostat to react more efficiently if the unit is placed in a cold enviroment, normally a suplimentary heater or it leaves the inside light on low.

Thanks Dave, is this fridge frost free?? I have found alot of ice in the freezer so i have taken the inside cover off and chipped most of it away, is this something that just may have built up over time? The doors are fine so there is a good seal..Thanks in advance....

Yep, it's frost free.

Please don't "chip" away at the ice, you may damage something. Leave it switched off with the doors open for 24-48 hours

Possibly faulty although it can happen on occasions with no real reason.

See how it goes after the defrost, if it ices up fairly quickly then there is a defrost problem and would be best to get an engineer to check for you.

Try Repairs@ should the need arise

On this model leaks are common-ish usually leaks at compression joint on fridge evap where capillary enters evap.-unrepairable (unless you like a mess!) To check push back wall if it is spongy (gas floating round) it more likely to be dead.
The Orange switch is not a fast freeze NEVER use it, unless you keep the unit in your shed/garage and in that case only when the ambient temperature is 10oC or lower, with this switch on it does bring on a supplimentry heater, when temps are above 10oC you can get some very strange results.
PCB's can go faulty mainly on deftost programme.
BUT it could be sensor related too, none of the sensors are replaceable they either completly or the cable is embedded in the insulation material!
IF the heater seems to be working insufficently as in not drawing enough current, it is more likely to be the PCB not supplying enough current......

I called our the engineer 3 months ago after the 2 year old MFI fridge freezer stopped working. He replaced the compressor/motor and replaced the refrigerant gas at a cost of £140.
Now the freezer has stoped freezing, but the fridge seems to be working ok. The control is set at 8.
The engineer now tells me that he thinks it is probably the control module (circuit board) inside the top of the fridge that is faulty, the cost of which is "about £100".
Anyone else encountered this problem. I'm reluctant to spend this amount without being sure of the fault.

I have the same fridge freezer, my problem is the fridge and freezer do not stay at temperature they appear to defrost, although the freezer did at least make an attempt at freezing after i had turned the unit off. It sounds like the pcb but are there any electrical signals etc I can check for around this board to determine that it is fauly? The unit is approx 3 years old. A diagram of the unit including board would be helpfull.

I have done a bit of checking, after turning the machine off and on the fridge and freezer work but after a time both then heat up, hope this helps to get an answer to the problem.

It's almost certain to be the PCB in that case, it sounds as though it's staying on the defrost cycle. No easy way of testing to be honest

New board arrived and fitted, unfortunately the problem is still there!
The fridge and freezer went to temperature and then the compressor turned off, when the temperature rose up the compressor kept working but allowed the device to heat up just cooling to about -4 degrees in the freezer but the temp rises to about 12 degrees. Any other ideas would be good, thanks
