Creda T601CW not heating (Thermostats already replaced)

Postby Piltdown64 » Sat Oct 01, 2005 7:40 pm

Hi,

Unfortunately our 1999 Creda T601CW has recently stopped heating. Everything else appears to work (drum spins, fan blows etc.).

I've replaced both of the thermostats (the one with the green dot was concave at the bottom) with a 1701583 kit but it made no difference - still no heat.

I guess my next plan of attack is the heating element (its a 2500w model). The element looks fine to me (i.e. no physical damage/breaks). Can someone give me an idea as to how I can determine whether the element is actually faulty or whether the fault lies elsewhere within the bowels of the machine...

Thanks & regards

John

There is another stat, well hidden near the door and not easily accessible to the uninitiated. Apart from actually looking at the element the only way to be certain it is OK is by using proper electrical testing equipment, if it looks fine then it most likely is OK. Either of the two timers  could also be at fault, does the machine reverse tumble ?

Make sure the plug is out if you intend to proceed further.

NB. You must handle the new stats very carefully, it is very easy to press the base of the green spot stat in and it is then useless, have you checked the new green spot stat you fitted ?

John,

Creda have had problems with some makes of Timer control fitted to this model (the Heater Switch within burnts out :? )

I expect the timer is not giving a live feed to the element unit anyway, therefore fitting a conversion timer unit the only answer. There are 3 differing timers depending on the machine 'date code' (that's the first 2 numbers of the machines Serial No by the way

And there is also the 'hidden' timer which can on rare occasions prevent the heater from being switched on.

If the original stat base was concave, then the first thing I would do is to carefully check the new one to make sure you haven't pushed it in accidentally.
