Hi, great forum, I have a couple of questions about my DG6145 dishwasher.

The element has just gone pop, its actually ruptured so not worry's about identifying it. I am a bit worried as to why.

Running the machine with the heater disconnected, the water level doesn't seem to cover the element but it is sitting right on the holes of the raised overflow device. I can't see any floats (other than the overfill float) that determine when the machine should stop filling.

Is the water level supposeed to cover the element? Also, if the temp sensor failed, could it cause the element to overheat?

I would hate to replace the element and have it blow again.

Any advice would be most appreciated. Thanks

The appliance relies on the spray arms pumping water around the dishwasher. If this was working before it went pop then it should be a simple heater failure. Are you in hard water area/using salt?

Yes, the arms are free and the spray is plentiful. I have run the machine with the element disconnected and it seems to work fine. No, not a hard area, but we put salt in anyway.

There will be a safety stat that will cut the element out at 85 degrees. I would just have the element replaced. Unplug power if you are going to have a look yourself Or Try Repairs@ for an engineer in your area.

Thanks, I have ordered the element.

If I shocked myself, the lads at work would never let me live it down as I repair Electronic equipment for a living.

I was just a bit worried that as the element had quite severely damaged and ruptured itself and lots of smoke blew out, that maybe the thermostat was faulty and it had overheated.

Should find out tomorrow then

New element fitted, still no heat, the element rupturing must have taken out something else.

Is there a fuse lurking about inside that protects the element?

The dishwasher seems to work fine, just no heat

Almost certainly thermostsat or safety stat problem.

If you looking for re-set thermostat its situtated at the back rear right under tank.
If it has tripped it will allow you to press its centre button in and a click will be heard.
Please, before attempting any repair unplug form mains

Many thanks guys, I found the problem, when the element went, there was a lot of charring around the spade connector, I was trying to clean it off tonight and the spade connector fell off in my hand

I cut the cable back two inches and crimped on a new connector.

Bingo.

Hi, I have another problem with this dishwasher.

My wife said the machine started making a knocking sound as if there was some cutlery, etc fouling the spray arms. Found nothing blocking it. She also said there was a funny smell coming from it but she left it running anyway!!

When I came home, it was dead and there was a smell of burning. The plug into the wall had partially melted and the machine was about half drained.

I think the most likely problem was that the drain pump has shorted or overloaded, probably due to blockage, etc, and taken out the fuse.

The dial had stopped about thre quarters of the way round where I would estimate that it was on the drain cycle.

Does this sound about right? If so, I'll order a new pump for it.

Regardless of the faults on the dishwasher, if your plug has 'melted' you have a serious problem with your plug and more than likely your wall socket.

The plastic insulation on the live pin had bubbled. The fuse was 13a.


I'll PAT ( i've got a robin tester) test the cabling, etc once i've sorted out the cause of the problem and replace the mains socket in case there is some internal melting.

I suppose i'll have to check the pump windings for a short. Could a seal have gone at the impeller causing a leak into the motor windings, contacts, etc?

I've seen pumps available for Indesits online so they must go quite frequently.

The drain pump and circulation pump are separate on these machines. Drain pump would only cause noise when emptying, not washing. Not heard one 'knocking' though. Drain pumps not very expensive, circulation pumps.

Guess you need to take a look, plug out of course.

PS. What is the full model number, there should be a WE or a WG after DG6145.

Hi, thanks, I have checked the model number on the front and on the s/n sticker on the back and in both places its listed as just DG6145.

There are three listed, a DG6145W as well, but I think that is not a UK model.
Drain pump is the same for both the others, C00090533.
