Hotpoint FF72 - Cooling Failure and tripping electrics!

Postby Linko » Thu Jun 01, 2006 7:39 pm

Hello,

The Hotpoint Mistral FF72 I have recently failed. The fridge would not cool down to its usual 3 degrees. I followed the advice of this and other forums to turn the unit off and thoroughly defrost and try again. This worked initially and then a day later the fridge started to warm again.

The fan was spinning in the fridge and I was able to check that cold air was getting through to the fridge from the freezer by holding the door switch in the closed position and putting my hand on the air outlet. After the fridge has been started for it slowly cools, after approx 12 hours it trips the electric on the mains circuit. If I restart the electric with the fridge on immediately it trips straight back out. If I leave the unit off for a few hours, until it gets to room temp and then switch on, it is fine for 12 hours then trips the electric again.

The fridge failed about 18 months ago with the same problem, that time however I was away and my girlfriend called out an engineer. The engineer replaced a thermistor (p/n 2601683) and the problem was resolved.
This time I opted to order the part and try to resolve myself. I changed the part, but still experience the same fault. Can anyone offer any advice?

Sorry for the long explanation, I was trying to make sure I covered everything :?

Thanks in advance,

Mark

I think it may possibly be the compressor itself failing when hot, but...

You'll need an engineer for this one to be honest as the various components that may cause this need checking with a megger.

Check the repairs@ link below :)
