Fisher and Paykel Smart Drive 051

Postby birve » Sat Jul 01, 2006 7:01 am

The pump drive circuitry on the main controller board burnt out, causing failure of power supply and total shut down. Bought a new controller board and installed. Intitiated the new board by holding down power and start/pause. Now have a display, and machine starts to fill for a few seconds then stops. If I turn the agitator while it is trying to fill, filling will proceed OK. This suggests that the hall effect sensor is working OK, but the motor is not working. Tested the motor windings, roughly ten ohms across the 3 phases. Diagnostic test comes up with 10001000. I suspect the pump coil may be out of limits, but unsure if the diagnostic is able to sense this. What resistance should I see for the pump? Help much appreciated.

Pump should read 26-33ohms depending on version. Fault 136 is specifically a motor fault however - wiring harness is the most likely culprit. I think I'd start by checking the wiring in the motor/pump area for breaks/chaffing etc.

Power off please.....

Which bit of "Unplug it" is causing the problem?

Thanks for your advice. I managed to find another working F&P 051 and swapped the control board that I had purchased for $AU195. Discovered that the rebuilt control board that I had purchased from SA Appliance spares was faulty... Very annoying since I had spent many hours trying to trace fault. Have sent machine owners son with faulty board to appliance spares to seek a repalcement or money back. Not at all happy with the quality of the rebuilt board. A sticker on the board says that it is rebuilt and tested. Will blow my stack if company refuses to replace or refund board.

Just to complete the story, yes the control board was replaced for a second time and the second replacement works fine. Moral to the story is don't trust your parts supplier if the part had a label saying rebuilt on it. I would like to have seen a label saying rebuilt by .... and a contact address. Oh well, I guess I learnt something.
