Smeg Fridge/Freezer bulb blew added new one now nothing.....

Postby w3dal » Sun Jul 18, 2004 8:21 pm

Hi Board,

Was recommended buy a Mod on anther board that i use this one and hopefully someone may be able to help me with the following problem -

----------originally posted on another board........................................

Hi All,

Just wondered if there was anyone on this board who could advise me on how i may be able to repair the fault on my Fridge.

Basically the Bulb went so i popped down to the Market to pick up a new one, wasent the same make but thought a bulb is a bulb stuck it in and after a couple of minutes the bulb blew and the Fridge blew the circuit breaker -

Bugger!!!

Today i went out and bought the correct replacement by Phillips stuck it in and nothing the light does not come on anymore ;0(

Is there a fuse that i can get to and replace or do i need to get out a Smeg guy who will charge me a small fortune to fix something i may be able to sort myself

Its only 13months old too so im just over the Guarantee

Any advice would be appreciated as this is the first fridge i have ever owned (first time flat buyer and all that )

The fridge is still working fine but no light

The model number is UKFC36RX2

Thanks

Hi Dal,

Smeg are a decent company, give them a call (the number can be obtained by using the weblinks section) and explain the position to them, in that the appliance is only just out of warranty and there is this problem. I have worked for Smeg for several years and I more or less know that they will go some way, if not all the way, to help you out. There's no need to be aggresive at all, most of the people at Smeg UK are really nice and will try to help you.

That's the difference between the decent companies and the others. ;)

If it`s te fridge freezer with small freezer large fridge it could be the light switch burnt out.Could be a small posability that the fridge door was not turning the light out.Smeg do a small mod for this.

Hi Chip, yeah that seems like the fridge i have. The light unit is right at the top in the centre in its own housing.

kwatt, i will track down the number (still trying to find my way around) and give them a call and see what they say. If they are gonna charge me stupid money then i wont bother but if its reasonable then ill get it fixed. Shame really as its such a nice fridge (how sad am i)

Hi Dal,

I'll save you a hunt...

Servevast, which is the service side is 0870 4447002, but try Smeg sales first as I said on 0870 9909337.

Back in the office with all the info now. ;)

Hi,

Thanks for the reply i did email customer services yesterday and they got back to me with wanting some more info on the Fridge, so fingers crossed they will come up with a deal for me.

I really wanna get the light working again but if its going to cost a small fortune i may have to give it a miss.

Will keep you updated.

Hi All,

Thought i would keep you updated -

I have just had an email from SMEG's Customer Care and they are going to send out one of the guys to fix the problem as a gesture of good will.

So im now going to do a lap round my office in Joy. I know its only a bulb thats gone, but its a bloody nice Fridge. Plus the last few days i have had to turn the kitchen light on everytime i want a beer (i miss the light) - ;0)

Thanks to all
