Ok guys, I have a Creda T512VW tumble dryer that has stopped drying and is blowing cold air through the exhaust vent.

Please could you tell me what I should be looking at to locate the fault.

The most common reason would be the thermostats failed, the set used in that model is here:

If not them then the heating element is the likely cause but, on those Creda, Hotpoint, Indesit dryers the first port of call would be the thermostats every time IMO.

Other than the possible causes that you've mentioned, are there any other things to look at that could also be causing the problem ?.

(Trip or microswitches,etc)

On those dryers, not normally. I'd home in on the thermostats first.

There could be but take it from me that you should go straight to the thermostat kit on the heater unit as THE main suspects every time.

Ok guys, I've had a meter on the Two thermostats and I'm only getting continuity on One of them.

The one with Black and Brown together on One side and Blue on the other is not showing continuity.

Assuming that they're normally closed, can I safely say that this is the cause of the problem ?

If this is the problem, would it be advisable to change the second thermostat at the same time ?

Finally, where at short notice (Today) could I possibly get one from ?

If you had followed the link in kwatt's first post you would have seen that they come as a pair.

Unless you have a local repair shop still open in your area that actually stocks them, it looks like you will be without your dryer until Tuesday.

PS. I am also 99% certain your stats have failed, hopefully three replies along the same lines will convince you to change them.

Ok guys, a further update and request for your help / advice.

Whilst looking at the link for replacement thermostats that was kindly provided in the first reply to my initial post, I noticed that the thermostats for my Creda T512VW tumble dryer are also used in the Hotpoint TL61N dryer.

I have the exact same model waiting to be picked up to go to the council refuse centre.

I've tested the Two thermostats and they're both good, visually they do not appear to be identical to the ones on the Creda in that One is Black in colour and the other White / Cream, unlike the Creda in which both thermostats are White, also the spade connectors are bent at 90 degrees upward as opposed to being flat like the ones fitted to the Creda dryer.

The wiring to them was also slightly different in that the White / Cream thermostat had Two Orange wires connected to it exactly like the Creda dryer, but the Black thermostat had Two Blue wires connected, unlike the Creda which had Blue on one side and Black and Brown together on the other side.

I hope you can make sense of all that, I've tried to explain it as simply as possible.

The question is guys, would it be safe / ok to fit the Two good thermostats from the condemned Hotpoint to the Creda dryer ?.

The Hotpoint TL61 used two different types of thermostat setups. One was the same type as your Creda, the other one is the same as the TL61 that you have.

The temperature ratings are not the same due to a different element fitted to each type.

The safety stat in your machine is rated to cut out at 150°C, the one in the Hotpoint is set to 109°C.

The cycling stat on your Creda is 106°C, the Hotpoint one is 85°C.

Apart from the possibility of the wiring fouling on the backplate due to the right angled connections they would be likely to fail in short order due to the much lower rating.
