Dyson DC04 belt keeps coming off and suction low

Postby dandandan » Wed May 26, 2010 10:35 am

my Dyson DC04 throws its belt off very easily now whenever you hit anything small and it is a real pain to get back on

i read on here sometimes the brish bar needs replacing and that is also a thin metal strip that should hold the belt in place

mine is doing the same and doesn't appear to have a thin metal strip...where is this situated and can you get a replacement?

my brush bar looks ok...

should there be a piece on the end of the motor spindle to stop it coming off or something?

the suction is also not great anymore

help! :)

Hi dandandan

If the belt throws off that easily I would think either the belt has stretched or the running groove on the brush roll is badly worn. I don`t know about a metal strip, the belt cover is part of the base plate.

The motor spindle doesn`t have a stopper, belt should run in a straight line from the motor spindle to the brush roll.

As for loss of suction check all hoses for blockages, make sure filters are clean and that any fluff / dust has been cleared from the cyclone, paint brush is good for this task.

HTH :)

Thanks Don:) Belt is new... from ebay said genuine and is really tight.. Maybe chinese copy!

Brush roll doesn't look worn. Is rounded where belt goes on, sloped sides. Is that right?

Can buy replacement but brushes not totally worn either...

Cheers

Yep brush roll sounds okay, if the belts are supposed to be genuine they will come in a pack of two in a black and clear packet with Dyson typed across the top.

Could be throwing the belt if it`s not the right one or motor spindle is damaged / faulty. I would visit my local retailer first and get another belt , just to be sure of course

This is a know problem with Dysons, as time goes on the cyclone unit fills with dust and detracts from the cleaners efficiency, the only way out is to replace the lot. I have seen several machines with motors chock-a-block with dirt and fluff that has escaped the filters.

Dyson may claim they do not lose suction, but put them in to proper domestic use and you will find this just ain't true. There is a whole industry built around fiddling test results and heres one of them!
:rolls:
My Mum had a DC04 and with in less than 4 years this problem was very apparent, so I bought her two Sebo's and she loves 'em.
