I'm trying to find a supplier for a Maytag/Hoover Windtunnel upright vacuum cleaner. I'd appreciate any help in tracking down this item.

This model isn't sold in the UK (yet anyway) if you're not.

You're right the model is available in the US but I'm in the UK and need 240 VAC. It was originally marketed in the UK as Maytag Windtunnel but now withdrwn from sale. I'm hoping I can maybe find someone with old stock.

The Maytag Windtunnels were withdrawn, apparently because they didn't suit the british consumer. I remember seeing them on sale in Arnotts' department store in Dundee, around 2000/2001.

Maytag are supposedly launching some new (and old!) cleaners soon:

It is supposed to be made of steel. Do you know the motor power, by any chance?

I wonder if it will still have the "double-stretch" hose (or equivalent). It is something I miss on the modern cylinder cleaners.

If it used 'filtrette' type dustbags (like Miele uses), I should imagine the performance would be substantially increased. Unfortunately, we won't know until it is released.

Was that the round blue one from the 70s ? I remeber my aunti having one like that didnt know it floated.

Yes, it was spherical in shape. It was a popular cleaner; still on sale in 1982. I know this because my parents purchased the (then!) sophisticated Hoover "Sensotronic System 2", from Currys in Kilmarnock. On the shelf was a "Constellation", in cream and orange livery, if I remember correctly.

Another cleaner from Hoover that used the hovercraft principle, was the "Celebrity". This was shaped like a flying saucer; but only the lesser-powered models used flotation. The more powerful used wheels.
