Bosch V696 motor not turning

Postby robmarshall » Mon Oct 10, 2011 8:57 pm

I use my ex-gran's old Bosch V696 to wash my overalls, to avoid contaminating our household machine. also, our newer machine does not clean very heavily soiled material as well, I suspect because it does not use enough water.

The Bosch is from around 1986 and is beautifully-made inside; cast iron weights instead of concrete and a stainless outer tub.

However, the drum has stopped turning. I presume that it has an induction motor, so does this mean that brushes can be discounted. In which case, what could the problem be and what should I investigate first?

The motor capacitor needs replacing (8mf Capacitor) and it's located under the lid adjacent the control timer.

Thanks for your reply. Things have been so busy with a baby arriving but i can spare a bit of energy fixing the machine.

I have taken the top off. There is no capacitor adjacent to the main wash timer that i can see. There are three dials. The main timer, the wash temp dial in the middle and the dryer timer selector on the left as you look at the machine.

Any other suggestions as to where the capacitor might be? I have found that if you turn the drum manually, it runs fine but there is no 'kick' to start it turning...

Any more ideas?

Thanks guys!!

It's next to the main wash timer. Try looking under the metal plate!!!!!

Thank-you for your response Martin, although it appears that your exclamation key is sticking…
I have had a further look at the V696 washer-dryer and cannot locate the capacitor, to which you refer.
I have taken a few pictures; three dials are at the front of the machine. Working clockwise in this picture:

I can see the pressure switch, the timer’s wiring connector, a metal plate that runs from to the back of the machine and an extension bar that leads to an extra timer for the dryer function, which is situated out of shot.
This is what is situated beneath the metal plate, which is connected to the middle dial:

It does not look like a capacitor to me, unless I am mistaken.
I have taken a look at the schematic diagram (http://www.bosch-home.co.uk/store/spare ... /V69635/00) and the part is identified as a “regulator – temperature”, which leads me to believe a capacitor is unlikely to be incorporated.
There is a capacitor, located on the backplate, but it is pretty small, part number 043806, and I doubt that this has anything to do with the motor but, again, I am prepared to be proven wrong.
Finally, here’s a pic of the sticker inside the door.

Any further ideas as to where I can try next?
Thanks again,

Rob

Ah yes, sorry, on that version the Capacitor is fitted to a bracket on the baseplate near the motor. (There's a translucent plastic cover protecting the terminals) :)

Capacitor found, a new one fitted and, hey presto, the old machine lives again. Sadly, the drain pump is leaking now... does UKWhitegoods stock a replacement?
