Bosch WAE24363GB/06 Changed Carbon Brushes - Now Very Noisy

Postby minttea » Sat Jun 16, 2012 4:09 pm

Hi,

My WAE24363 stopped working after developing a noisy spin & showed the error code F21.

We changed the carbon brushes, got it all back together & started a test wash. The machine is filling & going through the cycle fine & no more error codes but it is now very noisy with a loud, high-pitched whirring noise to accompany the drum turning / spinning.

Can anybody shed any light on this please?

As far as we know we put it back together all the same way it came apart!

Many thanks in advance for your help.

You have fitted one or both carbons the wrong way around? You have fitted cheap nasty 'pattern' brushes? The commutator needs cleaning of carbon dust? The motor is knackered?........that covers all I think you'll find......

Hi, thanks for the reply. The motor wasn't making this noise before so I'm hoping it's still sound. Machine is only 3 years old. We have fitted 3rd party brushes rather than Bosch - is that normally a problem? Pretty sure we got the brushes in the same way the old ones came out, we were careful to note the direction & match this up. There was a lot of carbon dust everywhere inside the machine, will take it apart again & clean commutator. When the motor is out of the machine, is it ok to vacuum out the dust with the narrow tube end of the vacuum? Thank you

Ok, had to buy cheap for short-term, can replace will genuine part later on (few weeks) but in the meantime can we just put up with noise or is it likely to damage the machine? Thanks for all your advice.

Thanks QUICK FIX & Martin.

Commutator now cleaned up & new brushes checked - definitely in the right way round.

I found this other post on here post318765.html#p318765 which seemed to suggest new brushes can be noisy sometimes until they bed in so we cleaned everything, reassembled it & put it on a fast spin - noisy for a bit then settled down again & sounds almost normal now.

Thank you UK Whitegoods people - this is such a helpful site for those of us who are financially challenged & have to learn a bit of DIY! :D
