LG F1403RD washing machine - drum bolt

Postby garysargent » Mon Apr 30, 2012 10:29 am

Hi,

I have an LG F1403RD direct-drive washing machine. This is great when it works, but seems to break itself every three months! Many of the screws just seem to work themselves loose and fall out!

The latest to become loose is the bolt that attaches the drum to the rotor at the back. The washer drum and rotor are secured together with a bolt which I believe is this part:

http://www.partmaster.co.uk/cgi-bin/pro ... 3rd%20bolt

I can tighten this by hand and it fixes the problem. But once there is a reasonable load in the machine the bolt loosens itself again, and the drum can't spin (the rotor spins, but the drum doesn't due to this loose bolt).

It is hard to tighten the bolt by a large amount as once tight the washer drum just spins around. How do you lock the washer drum so more pressure can be applied to tighten the bolt? I'm guessing the transit bolts might do this but I don't have them.

Is there something else I should be doing?

I've been considering something like that. It needs to be able to come off again though otherwise the motor won't be accessible if that ever needs servicing.

Any particular recommendations as there seem to be different strengths etc.

Hi,

Just to say thanks - I think the problem is now resolved.

I ordered a new bolt, and this came with a much better washer (not as compressed as the existing one) and also had some blue threadlock on it.

I've fitted this and it survived a 6KG load wash, so looks good!

Thanks for the help,

Gary.
