My Hoover AAA160 washing machine has decided to not rotate the drum... It started out as an intermittent problem. Anyone have any ideas? Do these machines have a brush type motor? Could that be the trouble?
thanks,
Alastair

I've had a look at the motor and brushes and they seem to be ok. There is about 1" or so of brush in the holder and they seem to touch the armature quite firmly. I'm now lost for ideas... any one else got any thoughts?
Thanks!

Electronics........... Engineer time!
Check the Directories section, or pop up your post code and someone should pick up on it.
Regards,
Penguin45.
Which bit of "Unplug it" is causing the problem?

Yeah I sort of guessed that. I do have a good grounding in electronics but in the abscence of a circuit diagram it makes it a bit tough to fault find! I have a sneaky feeling it may be the motor relay or control but as this is all mounted on a circuit board its a bit difficult to track any further... Postcode is LA1 2DB though....

Hi all,
After a bit more playing around I found the problem (decided to have one last go before junking it and buying a new one)... The brushes were fine (as expected) as was the electronics (phew!). In the end I tracked it down to a faulty thermal cutout on the motor. Bypassed the cutout so all it needs now is a new motor. I have no idea why the cutout gave up as the motor doesn't get hot at all. So next question... how much and what is the part no. for a new motor?
Thanks!
Alastair
