Hotpoint WF540

Postby dave123 » Tue Nov 15, 2005 12:31 am

Hi Everybody.

We just purchased a Hotpoint WF540 washing machine on Friday after our Hoover AC120 went on 'fire'. The motor on the old machine was black and the remains of the brushes were lying on the floor under the machine. It was a strange experience walking into the kitchen and it being full of smoke that smelled of burnt plastic.

Anyhow, our new machine seams to be 'banging' excessivly. It only does it when it goes from the 'clinging' or balancing stage of the pre-spin. It rotates fast enough for the clothes to cling to the drum but when it progresses to the faster spin, the drum knocks about and creates excessive banging. The transit bolts have been removed and the machine is level.

Does anyone have any ideas about this? Is it 'normal' for Hotpoint machines? I did notice that it reaches a very fast spin quickly compared to our old Hoover machine.

Any suggestions would be greatly appeciated.

Cheers,
Dave

Sorry,

To be more specific, it only bangs for a few seconds until its reached a stable speed. It is fine after that, until it slows down again and the same thing happens.

I cant seen to relate it to a load. I have used both light loads, heavy loads, loads of light artices and others with all heavy articles of clothing. I would say that it doesnt seam to be a problem with underloading/overloading or adding single heavy itemes to the wash.

It sounds like the concrete block may be loose on the drum.

It's best at this stage to get Hotpoint in to look at it underthe terms of their guarantee It's not a good idea to try and tighten it yourself. If the thread on the plastic drum has stripped you might get the blame if you admit to trying to fix it yourself.
