Motor problem? Candy C50 Tumble Dryer

Postby kevwey » Tue Dec 20, 2005 10:24 am

The drum on my Candy C50 tumble dryer has stopped rotating; timer and heater are both still functioning. If I remove the belt from the motor drive shaft, removing the load, the motor runs, it appears to have a very much reduced torque.
What has caused this to happen, can I get a replacement motor/brushes, and is it financially viable?
I can manually rotate the drum and the motor drive shaft, neither is particularly stiff.

It's not a problem with the motor!

It's nice and cheap for a professional to fix

See Repairs@ for a local engineer.

Or if your sticking your hand inside, unplug the machine first!

So what is the problem? I thought it might be brush wear?

The motor's 'capacitor' (they don't have brushes on t/dryers by the way)

See below for a local engineer to sort it

Yes, of course you're right, induction motor!!
I changed the mains suppression capacitor about two months ago after it blew (in half) I didn't notice any damage to it this time (nothing obvious).

That's not the same capacitor.

You need the motor start capacitor which is an 8uf and can be found here

I know you've already ordered by phone Kevin but for future readers ;)
