'93 Vintage Bosch Washer/Dryer skipping programmes

Bosch WFT8010GB/01

Our usually trusty washer/dryer has been very temperamental recently. Having just replaced the carbon brushes last weekend, it is now spinning well (if I just put it on a spin programme), but it is zooming through its wash cycles spending about 30 seconds on each before advancing to the next step.

It sometimes seemed to be doing this fast cycling before I replaced the brushes but having managed to do 4 loads of washing since, I thought the new brushes had fixed it. Does anyone have any suggestions of anything else I can try, before I give up on the old war-horse and buy a new machine?

No simple answer to this question but firstly ensure that the dryer timer is OFF first of all otherwise that could simply be the problem. If the insulation reading is low on the motor that too could well be a problem. You say you changed the brushes, or did you fit a genuine Bosch motor rear half unit (part no. 496876) or just pattern carbons? A blocked air chamber or low insulation on the water heater needs to be ruled out also.

Thanks for the advice. I only replaced the existing brushes with pattern carbon brushes.

It isn't so long since it has had a new heating element, and what I presume is the air chamber at the base of the drum rear is clear, so I think that I should perhaps try the genuine Bosch part (assuming it doesn't cost a fortune).

Best part of £60 they are so I would hold back from that move right now. Instead the insulation resistance of the motor needs checking (with a 500DCv Insulation Tester preferably) just to establish the actual state of the motor. :)

I've just had a local rewinding firm check the motor over. They said they blew lots of carbon out of it and it passed the insulation tests they made on it.

If I choose to go with the genuine Bosch motor rear half unit (part no. 496876) - where can I get that from? Are there any other avenues I can try?

.....and they didn't notice if the brushes were worn down presumably?

"avenues." ....you mean what else could be causing the fault if it's not the motor?
