All about the appliance manufacturers and all the different brands

Information about the manufacturers of domestic appliances and the many appliance brands, including who owns which brand and why you might think you are buying one thing but in fact buying something competely different.

Often in this section you will find out who actually makes the appliance you own or are thinking of buying.

For many we also include a review of what we in the repair trade think about the various makes and brands, how much they cost, how good they are and what ownership costs are like and what the servicing and spares are like. If you are thinking on buying a new appliance or, even a second hand one, this may prove a valuable resource that could save you an expensive mistake.

If you spot a brand you've seen in the UK that isn't here please let us know and we will look into it for you This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.  just click to send us a request.

Grundig Home Appliances

User Rating: 0 / 5

Star inactiveStar inactiveStar inactiveStar inactiveStar inactive

Grundig appliances brand logoGrundig is a relatively new entrant to the world of domestic appliances even although the brand name goes back to the 1930’s with the German brand being best known for consumer electronics, radios, televisions and so on largely prior to the turn of the century.

However the brand name was bought by Arcelik, the parent company of Beko in 2007 after a period of dual ownership with Alba from 2004.

All the products that Grundig produce, at least in terms of domestic appliances, as far as we have seen so far, are merely rebadged Beko products with new aesthetics although often with a longer guarantee to justify the higher price points.

Before the acquisition of the Grundig brand by Beko we are not aware of Grundig ever producing large kitchen appliances.

Grundig Service

Service for Grundig home appliances is the same as for Beko with a hybrid system of employed engineer and subcontracted independent repair companies.

Grundig Spare Parts

For home appliances of course we provide spare parts although you will find many the same as Beko parts (if not all) and that also means that there can be low cost alternative parts.

Given the higher price points of the Grundig branded appliances the use of spares is not as high as they are on Beko products so you may have to ask us if we haven’t listed the part you need. It is worth doing this as you may save money by allowing us the opportunity to cross reference the part/s against others.

Ikea Appliances

User Rating: 0 / 5

Star inactiveStar inactiveStar inactiveStar inactiveStar inactive

Ikea brand logoIkea of course are the mammoth and global furniture and kitchen retailer with its roots in Sweden and, as they sell kitchens, they also have their own lines of branded kitchen products, including appliances.

For a number of years, until about 2011/12 or so we believe when a lot of the products changed to being produced by fellow Swedish company Electrolux who just also happen to be the arch nemesis of Whirlpool.

As the products are branded by the two largest appliance producers in the world spares and service are not an issue and there’s little to fear from buying Ikea products.

And no, the appliances do not come flat packed for assembly!

Spares Pricing And Aftersales Service

Spare parts are relatively okay prices and are in line with the producers other brands. That means that the Electrolux Group produced spare parts are more reasonably priced and there is far more information available than there is for Whirlpool produced products.

Of course, as is often the case with both but far more for Whirlpool than Electrolux, some spare parts prices can be silly at times but most are okay.

The easy way to tell if the product you have is Whirlpool or Electrolux produced is to find the rating plate and to look for either a PNC or product number or a 12NC number. If it's a PNC or product number then it is Electrolux produced, if a 12NC number is present then it is a Whirlpool made machine.

Due to the fact that the products can be from different manufacturers which can cause confusion and to allow us to look for low cost compatible spare parts we suggest that you contact us for parts before ordering any for confirmation and any options available

Service is carried out by the normal mix of service for each brand and appears to be okay. So, Service Force for Electrolux and Whirlpool's own network for those, as far as we are aware.

Ardo Appliances

User Rating: 1 / 5

Star activeStar inactiveStar inactiveStar inactiveStar inactive

Ardo Applainces brand logoArdo appears to be the remnants of the old Ardo Merloni that owned the Ardo brand at one point but better known in the UK as Servis as well as making many machines, especially built in or integrated products for many brands.

The revised brand is shown as being under the ownership of a company called JP Industries S.p.A based in Italy.

The company currently produces washing machines, tumble dryers, washer dryers, tumble dryers, freezers, fridge freezers and fridges.

Little is known about the company at the time of writing however they do seem to be making products for third party brands and make a lot of the fact that the products are Italian made.

Spares Pricing And Aftersales Service

As appliances for Ardo are not currently sold in the UK there is, presently, no UK support or spares outlets available.

Celsus Appliances

User Rating: 2 / 5

Star activeStar activeStar inactiveStar inactiveStar inactive

As best we can tell, this brand is an own label for the B&Q chain and the washing machines that we could find would appear to have been made by Vestel, yes, Vestel once again.

Celsus Retail Position

Budget, very much the budget end of the market so do not expect great things or you will no doubt be disappointed.

The washing machines are produced to hit a low price point and you cannot expect any decent durability or probably performance either at the price points Celsus is being sold at.

We would suggest that if you are considering a Celsus washing machine that you do so on the premise that it most probably will not be of a very high quality and is unlikely to last long in normal family use. They may be fine for couples or single person households but we would not advise their use much beyond this.

There are plenty alternatives out there from the likes of Beko, Amica and many others that offer the same or better durability and products for about the same price as well as coming with better back-end support.

Celsus Spares

No spare parts arrangements are known.

Please note that we are not Celsus and cannot assist with most enquiries regarding this make!

Celsus Service And Repairs

Current service is unknown although we suspect it's a mixture of employed and sub-contract engineers through a national call handling agency. Given that the products are usually Vestel made we would imagine that much of the service would be handled by JTM Contracts or 0800 Repair.

Out of warranty servicing is possible but lack of spares and technical information to the trade at large will more than likely cause an issue. Not many, if any, spare parts are listed with the major spares distributors.

Holme Appliances

User Rating: 0 / 5

Star inactiveStar inactiveStar inactiveStar inactiveStar inactive

Holme Appliances brand logoHolme is yet another rebranded product, this time made for Asda and what we've seen they are being made by Vestel like many others. All the washing machine and dishwasher models we could find appear to be rebranded Vestel products with some that may have come from China, namely Midea or Haier but with little to no information on the actual brand name itself. We expect that the brand name was invented by Asda.

Given the price points it is reasonable to assume that these appliances will not be of particularly high quality and will not be built to take much more than light use.

We wouldn't recommend the machines that we've seen to most people.

Holme Market Position

Budget brand positioned at the very bottom of the market that is exclusively sold through Asda both in store and online.

Holme Service

All service is, so far as we can guess, being handled by JTM Service or 0800 Repair.

Holme Spare Parts

There are no confirmed suppliers of spare parts for Holme products and none are available beyond perhaps a few spare parts that have been cross referenced which have also been used on other brands.

Please note that we are not Holme and cannot assist with most enquiries regarding this make!
