  Manufacturer & Brand Information

Information about the manufacturers of domestic appliances and the many appliance brands, including who owns which brand, who really makes the products and why you might think you are buying one thing but in fact buying something competely different.

In this section you will find out who actually makes the appliance you own or are thinking of buying and which ones are own label brands. And we tell you what ones you can easily get spare parts and service for and, what ones you will struggle with.

For many we also include a review of what we in the repair trade think about the various makes and brands, how much they cost, how good they are and what ownership costs are like and what the servicing and spares are like. If you are thinking on buying a new appliance or, even a second hand one, this may prove a valuable resource that could save you from an expensive mistake.

We give you the information to help you choose good appliances that will last and be serviceable for as long as possible and avoid problems.

This is probably the most comprehensive list available anywhere but if you spot a brand you've seen in the UK that isn't here please let us know and we will look into it for you This email address is being protected from spambots. Falmec

Falmec

We don’t really know all that much about the Italian manufacturer Falmec, we expect as they are high end niche products and seem only to produce cooker hoods and a few induction hobs at the time of writing.

The hoods we have seen are not cheap at all with many costing in excess of £1000 so, they will not ever be mass market products but of that sort of money we would expect something pretty special and durable.

  Falmec Spare Parts

So far as we can tell, exclusive to Falmec so you will only have them able to supply parts.

  Falmec Aftersales Service

As above, it is Falmec only by the look of it.

Techwood Appliances

Techwood

We will not be able to assist you with this brand

We haven’t seen a lot of these to date but there are a few around.

It would appear as though Vestel (who make just about anything for anyone) are behind this brand and it mainly centres on consumer electronics and not large domestic appliances. However, there’s a few large kitchen appliances floating about which is why it pinged on our radar.

Mainly we see the brand being flogged as a budget option from a bunch of retailers and given that there’s no website for the brand we can find, no phone number or really not much of anything we’d have to say to avoid it.

  Techwood Market Position

Very budget.

  Techwood Spare Parts

In almost all instances, not available, hardly any parts or even information we could find.

  Techwood Service

What the UK servicing arrangements are unknown but as it is Vestel expect it to be the usual 0800 Repair, Minerva Services or suchlike.

  Techwood Ratings & Review

No review as no info but expect it to fall in line with other Vestel brands. If you get offered one second hand or whatever, avoid.

Viking Appliances

Viking

We will not be able to assist you with this brand

Viking is an American brand owned by a company called Middleby who are a big noise in the commercial space but not so much the domestic market.

That all changed when they bought AGA Rangemaster in 2015 though. then they really came to the fore in the UK where Rangemaster is popular.

Viking appliances though are generally well thought of and really only one step removed from being commercial grade which, given the company that owns the brand, that’s really not all that surprising.

They do however have a bit of a chequered history in the UK having been present in the UK market before, left, come back and now seemingly have left again.

  Viking Market Position

Very high end, cookers can easily cost £15,000 or more! The last time we looked a side by side fridge freezer over £22,000.

Oligarks and millionares only need apply.

  Viking Spare Parts

In almost all instances, not available, hardly any parts or even information we could find.

Given the nature of the appliances however that is to be expected.

  Viking Service

What the UK servicing arrangements are unknown but we do know some of the independent repairers carrying out both installation and service work on a specialist basis.

Given the nature we would expect Viking to move heaven and earth to help owners.

  Viking Ratings & Review

No review as we really do not have enough info but expect the machines to be of an outstanding quality with good backup and spares availability, just go into it in the knowledge that you will pay dearly for that.

Atag Appliances

Atag

We will not be able to assist you with this brand

Atag, formed in 1948 was a producer of upmarket cooking products primarily based in the Netherlands and acquired the ETNA and then Pelgrim brands by around 2000.

It’s never been all that popular in the UK but has been present for a time although it is hard to find. Equally, anyone who will repair them or supply parts is also hard to track down.

In 2008 the business was acquired by Gorenje. Atag’s PR department will say they merged but as far as we can see Gorenje now controls it and we suspect many products to be merely rebadged Gorenje stuff. In effect it’s being used as an own brand label of sorts in our opinion and, based on what we can find.

As far as we can tell, other than a mere handful of specialist dealers you can’t buy Atag in the UK at the time of writing. And, with the limited support and the high probability that they’re little more than a Gorenje machine in a fancy dress, there’s not a lot of reason to go out your way to do so.

If you’re an owner of and old Atag appliance, they’re not the same now. Not at all.

  Atag Market Position

Historically Atafg was high end but they appear to have moved downmarket a bit.

  Atag Spare Parts

In almost all instances, not available, hardly any parts or even information we could find.

  Atag Service

What the UK servicing arrangements are unknown but we expect it would just get routed through the usual Gorenje channels given they own the brand.

  Atag Ratings & Review

No review as we really do not have enough info but expect the machines to be of a mediocre quality and performance as we expect them to be based largely on Gorenje internals.

Mertz Appliances

Mertz

No Longer Trading

Mertz was yet another own label brand that was launched by a chap called Paul Thompson that appears to have been targeting kitchen specialists with built in products. The business went into liquidation in 2012 with the liquidators appointed in June of that year.

Little is known of the company at all other than that they appear to have been using Fagor produced machines but more than likely others as well.

Support is obviously no longer in existence and given we’d never heard of the brand until 2016 probably is a good indication that it wasn’t exactly popular!

Most spare parts are obsolete that we looked for as well so, if you do own a Mertz product we’re afraid that you are probably out of luck if you’re looking for any assistance with faults or with spare parts.

  Mertz Market Position

Was billed as being a bit upmarket but no longer available so it's a moot point.

  Mertz Spare Parts

In almost all instances, no longer available or ludicrous prices from what we could find.

  Mertz Service

What the UK servicing arrangements are unknown but it no longer exists anyway.
