  Manufacturer & Brand Information

Information about the manufacturers of domestic appliances and the many appliance brands, including who owns which brand, who really makes the products and why you might think you are buying one thing but in fact buying something competely different.

In this section you will find out who actually makes the appliance you own or are thinking of buying and which ones are own label brands. And we tell you what ones you can easily get spare parts and service for and, what ones you will struggle with.

For many we also include a review of what we in the repair trade think about the various makes and brands, how much they cost, how good they are and what ownership costs are like and what the servicing and spares are like. If you are thinking on buying a new appliance or, even a second hand one, this may prove a valuable resource that could save you from an expensive mistake.

We give you the information to help you choose good appliances that will last and be serviceable for as long as possible and avoid problems.

This is probably the most comprehensive list available anywhere but if you spot a brand you've seen in the UK that isn't here please let us know and we will look into it for you This email address is being protected from spambots. Finlux Appliances

Finlux Appliances

Finlux brand logo

Some of us, that are of a certain age, might recall the Finlux brand and associate it with televisions and other so called browngoods but, not so much with appliances.

Finlux would appear to be a more well know name in other European countries, not so much in the UK.

The brand was acquired by Vestel in 2006.

Primarily we expect that this was to shift televisions and other consumer electronics that Vetel makes but it would appear that the brand has drifted into selling Vestel produced appliances as well now. Just how much is being pushed through under the Vestel banner we really don't know but, we have seen parts for washing machines, cookers and more pop up under the Finlux brand.

  Finlux Retail Position

We aren't really all that sure of what the pitch is with Finlux or what Vestel wants to do with the brand in the terms of appliances.

Possibly, like Blomberg for Beko, it will be used as an "independent exclusive" brand or something like that as most people probably won't recognise the Vestel brand and we're sure more people would vaguely recall the Finlux branding and perhaps might possibly equate it with its Finnish roots.

It's not Nordic however, it's Turkish stuff.

Due to a lack of familiarity with Finlux appliances we do not have enough information to offer any meaningful opinion on the brand other than what we have already stated about Vestel made products in general.

It reasonable to assume however that it is highly likely that Finlux are once again budget machines dressed up with a more recognised and maybe even a trusted brand name. There seems little to justify recommending Finlux over other machines that are, considerably cheaper but have the same internals that are also produced by Vestel.

  Finlux Service

UK service for Finlux appliances is unclear although we expect that it will just be the same as most other Vestel brands and we believe that service is  being handled by Minerva Services at the time of writing.

  Finlux Spare Parts

Spare part supply was said to be generally okay (ish) but we have not enough experience of the brand to offer much more opinion at the time of writing and on looking we failed to find any support.

However the usual caveats about Vestel spare parts apply, it can be difficult, limited and expensive.

  Finlux Rating & Review

You can find out how we determine these rating in this article explaining how we put this together in as easy way possible for people to understand quickly.

Finlux market share
Miniscule UK market share
Very small for appliances but then they are fairly new to the market
Brand kudos
Very well known brand
Finlux is a well known brand in some areas but not so much for domestic appliances
Finlux appliance pricing
Very cheap but, nasty by all accounts
Cheap enough but you can get better for similar money from more recognised appliance brands
Quality
Not good quality levels
For the prices do you really think these will be great? And, paying more for a Finlux badge as opposed to one of the many other Vestel build machines doesn't make it any better
Repair rating
Same as Vestel.
We've not seen much feedback as yet but, given they're just rebadged Vestel machines expect more of the same
Repairer support
Authorised agents might fix them but, it's quite likely nobody else will

Overall Rating

Our advice, avoid this one!
Finlux appears to be little more than yet another glorified Vestel product. You can get the same cabinets and mechanics elsewhere for less.

ART Appliances

myappliances brand logoART Appliances

We guess that this is merely an offshoot type sub-brand of ART Appliances who are, an offshoot sub-brand of ART Appliances.

Confused yet?

Basically we think these machines are just rebranded versions of what's already there as other brands to sell through different channels. This one appearing to be the cheap, cheap (not very good??) version of the standard fare from ART Appliances, probably so as not to upset the existing retail channels such as B&Q etc.

All the same rules and comments appy and you can find out more by looking up both Cata and My Appliances to find out what we think of them.

  ART Appliances Market Position

The very bottom of the market on pricing that we have seen, they are firmly in the bargain basement catagory.

We suspect that many of the products are lower quality Far Eastern in origin and just made to a price.

If you choose to buy these products just go into aware that they probably will be far from the best, the prices should tell you that and that there is limited support on both spares and service.

  ART Appliances Service

Like the others in the group, unknown.

This is a complete mystery, we have no idea who is carrying out service on these products, if indeed anyone is.

It seems that 0800 Repair may be carrying out the service work but, we really do not know for sure.

  ART Appliances Spare Parts

Very little is known about ART Appliances spare parts as we have had little call to investigate obtaining them, most likely due to low sales volumes under the brand name.

When looking across all the major spares suppliers however we could find zero information or spare parts availability for any products we looked at. We suspect therefore that spares supplies will be either very difficult if possible or restricted to one outlet only.

Please note that we are not ART Appliances and cannot assist with most enquiries regarding this make!

Overall Rating

Not enough information on the ART Appliances brand to offer a lot of opinion

Falmec

Falmec

We don’t really know all that much about the Italian manufacturer Falmec, we expect as they are high end niche products and seem only to produce cooker hoods and a few induction hobs at the time of writing.

The hoods we have seen are not cheap at all with many costing in excess of £1000 so, they will not ever be mass market products but of that sort of money we would expect something pretty special and durable.

  Falmec Spare Parts

So far as we can tell, exclusive to Falmec so you will only have them able to supply parts.

  Falmec Aftersales Service

As above, it is Falmec only by the look of it.

Techwood Appliances

Techwood

We will not be able to assist you with this brand

We haven’t seen a lot of these to date but there are a few around.

It would appear as though Vestel (who make just about anything for anyone) are behind this brand and it mainly centres on consumer electronics and not large domestic appliances. However, there’s a few large kitchen appliances floating about which is why it pinged on our radar.

Mainly we see the brand being flogged as a budget option from a bunch of retailers and given that there’s no website for the brand we can find, no phone number or really not much of anything we’d have to say to avoid it.

  Techwood Market Position

Very budget.

  Techwood Spare Parts

In almost all instances, not available, hardly any parts or even information we could find.

  Techwood Service

What the UK servicing arrangements are unknown but as it is Vestel expect it to be the usual 0800 Repair, Minerva Services or suchlike.

  Techwood Ratings & Review

No review as no info but expect it to fall in line with other Vestel brands. If you get offered one second hand or whatever, avoid.

Viking Appliances

Viking

We will not be able to assist you with this brand

Viking is an American brand owned by a company called Middleby who are a big noise in the commercial space but not so much the domestic market.

That all changed when they bought AGA Rangemaster in 2015 though. then they really came to the fore in the UK where Rangemaster is popular.

Viking appliances though are generally well thought of and really only one step removed from being commercial grade which, given the company that owns the brand, that’s really not all that surprising.

They do however have a bit of a chequered history in the UK having been present in the UK market before, left, come back and now seemingly have left again.

  Viking Market Position

Very high end, cookers can easily cost £15,000 or more! The last time we looked a side by side fridge freezer over £22,000.

Oligarks and millionares only need apply.

  Viking Spare Parts

In almost all instances, not available, hardly any parts or even information we could find.

Given the nature of the appliances however that is to be expected.

  Viking Service

What the UK servicing arrangements are unknown but we do know some of the independent repairers carrying out both installation and service work on a specialist basis.

Given the nature we would expect Viking to move heaven and earth to help owners.

  Viking Ratings & Review

No review as we really do not have enough info but expect the machines to be of an outstanding quality with good backup and spares availability, just go into it in the knowledge that you will pay dearly for that.
