Bauknecht's history seems to have been all but removed with almost no information available other than that which survives from memory.

Bauknecht was a successful brand in Germany and across Europe until, it is thought, that the brand was bought in the late 1970's or early 1980's from the founders sons who had (allegedly) frittered away the value in the company by living the lives of rich playboys. The company passed into the hands of Philips who, at that time, where looking to reinforce and strengthen their line of appliances across Europe.
Then in 1989, Whirlpool Corporation and Philips formed a joint venture company, Whirlpool Europe B.V., to manufacture and market appliances in Europe. Whirlpool Corporation became the sole owner of the venture two years later and inherited the Bauknecht brand name.
Bauknecht's original range of washing machines were extremely highly regarded in the industry for their exemplary build quality and longevity. Dishwashers were also regarded for their performance and build quality.
Sadly today the appliances appear to be not much more than rebranded Whirlpool products for the most part.

Bauknecht? Looks awfully like a large capacity Whirlpool to us... 'cause it is!
Retail Prices
Priced to compete directly with the likes of Bosch and AEG places Bauknecht in the upper-mid sector of the market.
Also in line with other German manufacturers it would appear that production is being moved away from Germany due to increasing labour costs. For example some laundry (washing machine) production is reported to have been moved to Brazil of all places.
Spares pricing is as with most Whirlpool spare parts, ranges from expensive to just plain ludicrous although there are many Bauknecht spares available in our online store, some much cheaper than you may have found.
Aftersales service is as Whirlpool who employ a network of ndependent agents across the UK but many are Whirlpool agents only and they can be expensive and leave you with little choice on servicing but most of the repairer companies in our free Find An Engineer service will repair Bauknecht products.
