F&P was founded by Woolf Fisher and Maurice Paykel in 1934 as Fisher & Paykel Industries, initially importing refrigeration and laundry products from the USA. Production commenced in 1939. The company still has a family connection, Gary Paykel being the Group chairman. The company also manufactures industrial production machinery and has major interests in healthcare markets.
Its headquarters are at East Tamaki, Aukland, New Zealand.
They are a relatively new name in the UK and Europe, having formed a "strategic partnership" with Whirlpool in 2003. Keynote feature is the extensive use of stainless steel on refrigeration and cooking products, as well as digital control. The "Dish Drawer" dishwasher is a unique concept, comprising two "mini dishwashers" in one unit, which slide in and out as drawer units.

The "SmartDrive" laundry products beloved of UK Whitegoods Australasian Forum are not sold in the UK or Europe.
In June 2006 Fisher & Paykel aquired the "Elba" cooking brand in Europe to expand it's European range of appliances with the sale completed in 2007 for €78 million.
In 2009 Haier took a large chunk of Fisher & Paykel and now owns a considerable stake of the company equity.
Fisher & Paykel products don't generally come cheap, exclusive and expensive is a good description. John Lewis appears to be the best known major retailer but the brand is also available from numerous kitchen specialists and independent retailers.
Products from Fisher & Paykel can also be found on the internet from some online retailers.
Fisher & Paykel's cooking products that are made in New Zealand are rock solid things built to last and they perform very well.
The Dishdrawers have (and continue to) improve but they are not for everyone by any stretch and we would urge people to think carefully about their needs before taking the plunge and buying one.
Spares can be expensive for Fisher & Paykel machines as soem people seem to make them that way. But, many of the spares that we've sourced have proved to be actually fairly reasonably if not inexpensively priced.
The only downside is that there are limited optioins available as there's not a lot of compatible spares available but, with spares being reasonably priced that's not so much of an issue.
Fisher & Paykel Service & Repairs
Fisher & Paykel service is handled by independent repairers, many of whom offer their services on our approved appliance repairer search service. The network is controlled by Fisher & Paykel themselves these days and delivered through a network of independent engineers after previously using the Whirlpool network and Domestic & General.
Generally service information is relatively freely available within the industry and is first class.
Trade technical support is given by a number of engineers on the UK Whitegoods forums so getting information or help is not too difficult.
Fisher & Paykel have also started to make their user manuals or instruction books downloadable freely as PDF files from their website which is excellent.
