Cannon

Cannon logo

Cannon one of the leading brand names in gas cookers and gas fires in the UK market and is well recognised with UK consumers.

The Cannon foundry was established in 1826 near Bilston in the West Midlands and it specialised in the manufacture of household and general ironmongery. It was well known throughout the world as one of the main exporters of high quality iron products during the 19th and early 20th Century.

Cannon introduced their first gas cooker in 1895 and their first gas fire shortly after the turn of the 20th Century. Cannon had a world first in the 1890's with their green enamelled iron 'Chef Cooker' as it was the first ever coloured kitchen appliance. This is demonstrated by the fact that Cannon have consistently remained as the number one brand in gas cookers and has a growing export market in the Far East and Australasia.

In 1935 the Cannon Iron Foundries became a Public Company. In 1989 Cannon, who were by now also part of the GEC Group became part of the new division called 'General Domestic Appliances'.

It appears that Cannon no longer produce heating appliances such as gas fires.

Of course at this point in time this meant that Cannon became part of the Hotpoint Group in the UK which consisted of Hotpoint, Creda and now Cannon which in 2001 came under the ownership of the Indesit Company (at the time of buying The Indesit Company traded as Merloni Elettrodomestici) which makes the brand now essentially an own label brand for the giant Italian parent company.

However now Cannon along with all the other Indesit brands has been swallowed into the massive Whirlpool Corporation from late 2015.

  Cannon Market Position

Cannon gas appliances are firmly in the lower to mid price band and are widely available from the major retail chains such as Currys and Comet as well as independents and are also available discounted on the internet.

The Cannon brand however does not appear to be as popular as it has been in past years.

  Cannon Spare Parts

Cannon spares tend to be on the same level as both Hotpoint and Indesit, which you would expect being the parent company.

Most popular Cannon spares are obviously cooker spares and the most common of those are available in this section of our store. Thankfiully, being a part of a large appliance group pays off here as a lot of the more common spares used across the group's brands are available as low cost or cheap alternative parts, often the same parts just repackaged without the original part number. And, due to this, you can save a lot of cash on spares for more common Cannon spares like heating elements, seals, fan motors and so on.

  Cannon Aftersales Service

Service is provided by their own, in house service division as is the case for Creda, Ariston and Indesit for both in guarantee and chargeable work. You get the same aftersales service on the Cannon brand as you will on the other Indesit Company brands.

They do also use franchised service engineers. Hotpoint's labour charges are on the high side at just under £100.00 . A better alternative for out of warranty repairs is a local independent who will almost certainly be far less expensive and in most cases will be able to callout far faster than the manufacturer possibly can.

You can find many appliance engineers that are approved using our free engineer search facility.
