Proline is the budget brand owned and operated by Comet and, to our knowledge, is only sold by Comet, serviced by Comet and spares are only available from Comet. Actually spares can be obtained through UK Whitegoods for a heap of Proline machines as we know what many of them actually are and simply cross-reference.
The brand is positioned at the budget end of the market with (seemingly) many of the current range coming in from China and the likes to keep the costs down. For example the current integrated dishwasher, the Proline DWI 5212P, would appear on a cursory glance to be one of the Haier produced integrated dishwashers and, frankly, they are utter rubbish.
It is unfortunate that this is so as, in the past, Comet have chosen some pretty decent machines to represent the Proline brand name, okay so not all were perfect as they did use Brandt, but the Blomberg washing machines were pretty good and the old Ocean machines (later to become Brandt) were actually pretty good. Some of the refrigeration was also pretty well made.
Not anymore it seems, shame really.
Now you will find almost any product imaginable being sold under the name in Comet stores, owned by Kesa Electricals now as well as, we suspect, Darty stores in France, as it seems to be used as a general "Comet" brand for anything from a DVD player to a washing machine or fridge freezer.
Proline Retail Position
Used to be snapping at the mid-market but recently there appears to have been a downwards trend on pricing placing it firmly in the realms of the budget market.
Likewise spare parts are very often ludicrous prices from Comet who supply through their spares website or customer service department.
The only ray of hope here is that, as the appliances get a little older, we learn what they are and who actually made them (often not much help with the Chinese stuff) and can supply spare considerably cheaper than Comet can.
Proline Service & Repairs
Aftersales service from Comet isn't cheap!
If you buy a Proline machine now our advice is to buy the warranty with it as, if it does fail (highly likely on the new dishwashers, about an 80% chance of failure) then you're going to need it to save on the medical bill when you get the repair price.
Likewise the independent repairers can often repair the appliances at a considerably lower cost as they know what they are looking at.
Getting help, buying spare parts or getting a service engineer for can range from the simplest task in the world to a daunting one as you try to pick your way through model numbers, serial numbers, ranges and all sorts of information. We try to make this as simple as possible for you and take out any hassle but, sometimes, we know that we all need a little help from the experts.
