Amana is another of those brands that has been caught in the consolidation of the industry having been acquired by Maytag some years ago and, in 2006, Maytag was subsequently acquired by the industry behemoth that is the Whirlpool Corporation. If things run true to form then expect to start seeing re-badged Whirlpool products sold with an Amana badge on them anytime now. In fact already at the time of writing many Amana fridge freezer models look suspiciously like some Whirlpool ones.
In the UK Amana has always been viewed as a top end product and, to be fair, the machines were always fairly good although whether this will remain true or not remains to be seen.
Generally available from specialist retailers only Amana can be hard to find and, when you do find it, expensive to buy. We would suggest looking elsewhere for a US fridge freezer in the UK.
Spares are ludicrous prices, or have been, from the sole UK supplier, Bradshaws. We would not expect any huge change in that opinion under Whirlpool control.
Service up until now has been limited and expensive with many repairers either unable to touch the machines or simply unwilling to do so. Primarily this is due to poor spares availability, lack of technical information and spares pricing.
